Actually insane that Tesla would cut off its affordable model under development. It's valuation was majorly based on its vast growth potential of its affordable model. Instead what we got is a rubbish Cybertruck, and Model 2 cancelled ffs

I now understand siegecrossbow's feelings towards his Boeing stock.
Rip my Tesla calls..

I sold my Tesla stocks early this year and made a decent profit off it.

It was obvious the moment Elon pivoted to spacex as his main project couple years ago. Tesla hit its full potential, all downhill from there. It should imstead think about how to utilize its brand power to not completely swallowed by Chinese competitors.

I do wish he kept Model 2 though. In a protective market it might stand a chance.

Teslas valuation is based on its high gross profit margins, which remains quite high but has plummeted from near 30%. An affordable model is never going to drive stock prices, if anything scrapping such plans should comfort most investors.

I would rather trust Reuters more than Elon. Elon is a well known liar. Do you remember the "Full self driving by X year" meme?

In any case, its Reuters's 3 Tesla sources and who knows how many internal company emails Vs a well known liar responding with a vague "lies" statement

Except Reuters can publish virtually any rumor they see fit while Musk is in big trouble if he's lying to investors. You have to distinguish between ambition and promise - especially as it's clearly going to be legal and not technical hurdles to overcome.

There's not much demand for small cars in the US. For Model 2 to succeed, it must get most of its sales from outside of the protected US market, meaning it will have to compete against low cost Chinese EVs.

Full self-driving by X was a case of early optimism, which costed(still does) most of the industry. It's just around the corner for 10 years not just for Tesla, but since Tesla took helluva money based on this optimism - they simply can't step back.

It's sources that easily lie on purpose. Or sometimes get invented out of blue, not exactly unprecedented.
