China megaport builder hits back as Peru moves to scrap exclusivity deal

Lima reverses course on right to operate controversial Chancay project
A Chinese state-owned shipping company building one of Latin America’s biggest deepwater ports has criticised a move by the Peruvian government to remove its exclusive right to operate the facility.
China Cosco’s Peruvian arm said a decision by authorities in Lima to seek to annul the exclusivity granted over the Chancay megaport affected the “security and legal stability of investment”. The exclusivity had been a “relevant factor” in the company’s decision to spend $1.3bn on the construction of its first phase, it said.
The company added that it “has been evaluating the impact which this measure is producing on the development of the project”, in a statement that raised questions over China Cosco’s commitment to future phases of the scheme, which is due to cost $3.6bn in total.

Chancay, 70km north of Lima, has raised concerns in Washington because of American fears that China is gaining control of large amounts of critical infrastructure in Peru, a crucial mining nation. The Financial Times reported last year that the US had expressed concern to President Dina Boluarte’s government over the issue.
Obviously the Americans are involved otherwise how would Peru alone find the courage to even contemplate to steal from China

Its initial phase is due to be inaugurated in November when Chinese leader Xi Jinping visits Peru for a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
They even want to humiliate Xi on live television lol

Beijing’s ambassador to Peru, Song Yang, has promoted the megaport enthusiastically, saying that “China is betting that Chancay will become Peru’s Shanghai”.
But Peru’s National Port Authority said on Friday it was seeking to annul the exclusive right it had granted China Cosco in 2021 to operate the port because of an “administrative error”, adding that under Peruvian competition law it did not have the power to grant such a right.
Ok, demolish the port and give back the money invested, plus interest (protect against inflation) plus damages for incurring opportunity costs

The port authority insisted its move would not affect construction of Chancay, which is more than 70 per cent complete, and that it would continue working with the Chinese company to finish the project by the planned date.
China Cosco, however, expressed surprise that Peru’s attempt to remove exclusivity came three years after it had been granted in a public process that received no complaints at the time. The company is building Chancay along with a junior partner, Peruvian mining company Volcan

China suffered a major export deficit, in 2021, of nearly $0.5 billion in Chinese Gooseberry exports. The number now stands at less than $20 million.

China's cultivar still has some ways to go. It's slightly less fragrant and the ripening less even for some fruits, but the sweetness is excellent. It's also slightly smaller. But it is cheaper, so I buy only those from China to stretch the dollar.

The envy of modi and jaishankar is palpable, we must remember that these were the ones who tried to start a war with China as it was grappling with Covid.
A few years ago, I talked to a couple of Northeast Indian girls on Xiaohongshu. They were on the app because they were interested in Chinese fashion and culture. They told me about how much they hated Indians. Perhaps it is time for China to support the secessionists in Northeast India. (I'm half-joking...I don't think India is worth the time, yet.)

There was that big summit in Australia with ASEAN attending.

Anwar Ibrahim made a speech, rejecting any attempts to force third countries to take sides in the dispute between China and America.

That was only a couple of weeks ago.

All this bad mouthing of China we see last couple of days now from the 5 Lies, just on cue, new allegation, that is all the butt hurt coming out.

That is what it is. Bitterness and butt hurt, accusing China of this or that, without any evidence.

They had their chance, everyone had their chance to make their positions clear at that Australian hosted summit. The did not like what they heard.

Now they are lashing out.

:p
I don't think the ploy to fool the public is working much based on my observation in NZ.

I frequent a local blog forum with mostly right leaning posters who are usually critical of China. On the day the news broke, only one post was about the alleged hacking and the few replies to the OP was dismissal of the idea, saying all countries hack each other and especially our very own 5 eyes club. They questioned why making it public now, what is the govt trying to deflect and distract people from?

Also the hacking news lasted only a day in the NZ news cycle, no less no more.

At this point the solution is easy: if the exclusivity is in question, then so is the payment schedule, because the payment schedule was agreed upon along with the exclusivity. Not having exclusivity is fine, that just means the return on investment has to come sooner. No more money needs to be added... just the schedule accelerated. Refuse to pay? Plenty of ways to make up for that.

BJP = Indian fascism and may lead to a similar tragedy if not contained.

By supplying Brahmos to the PH, as well as supporting Bong Bong Marcos and the Amboys against China, India had inserted itself into China's SCS disputes. A couple of unreliable Brahmos missiles is nothing China that could not handle, but the threat and intent is there.

What Modi and Jaishankar severely underestimates is that China can do so much more in South Asia to hit back. Pakistan is a far more dangerous foe to India than the PH could ever be to China. Other smaller nations around India are slowly opening to cooperating with China in defense. Unlike China, practically all of India's neighbours have territorial disputes with it. They are either current or potential customers for Chinese weapons. Apart from that, Myanmar's loss of its Northern territories actually makes fertile ground to train and arm insurgents for India's Northeastern states. Even better that there are plenty of modern Russian and NATO weaponry on the black market today to arm them with. These idiots are lucky that China is no longer into the dark arts of supporting insurgencies in other countries. But if they keep pushing, they might eventually compel China to reopen its book of the dark arts.

Modi will win the current election in India, and because of that, the chances of another Indian war with China is getting more likely. Should that day come, China should unleash hell on India on multiple fronts. First, a good old fashioned spanking by the PLA at Aksai Chin and South Tibet. Second, support a Pakistani invasion to liberate Indian-Occupied Kashmir. Third, create and support multiple uprisings in North Eastern India. They would help to weaken India's grip on South Tibet and Bhutan. When the PLA have secured South Tibet, they can help to liberate Sikkim too. Fourth, fight the Indian Navy in and around the Indian Ocean to break their blockade of the Malacca Strait. Aim to sink the Indian Navy for good. Don't forget to prepare ABM systems near the Indian border and in the Indian Ocean, just in case India might launch its Agni's and other nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles.
