Something else they say that's interesting is that the six pl-15s in one aircraft version is already in service
I think they confirm 6 missiles(not specifically PL-15) in the belly and Wanghai Brigade J-20 deployment was part of response to Pelosi TW visit last year.
The deployment was right after a major drill/exercise which shown excellent readiness. They called it "cold-start".

Could they've meant PL-15+10?

Can I have a link to the video? I want to hear the exact wording.

Brilliant news nonetheless.

No they meant six medium range missiles in belly bay. But since J-20 carry them internally wallclimbers cant really see any change.

Another interesting tidbit is that J-20 has set the flight endurance record for any PLAAF fighter aircraft some time between 2021 and 2023 via multiple midair refueling. They jokingly referred to it as fighter aircraft cosplaying a UCAV but the pilot was completely exhausted afterward. If it were a two seater the situation could be much improved.

But rumor has it that they got smoked badly in Golden Helmet 2023 because newer batch J-20 with WS-10C and upgraded radar/avionics are half a generation more advanced than the “legacy” J-20 operated by them. Guess they can turn the tide around once they get J-20A.
J-20A will get further electronics and avionics upgrade along with WS-15.. that's insane

incident in the video is probably the one described

Yes. They scrambled six J-20s to gangbang the intruder from multiple directions. Poor bloke turned tails and ran. Really shocking how well integrated KJ-500/Ground based radar is with fighter aircraft and how capable the J-20 is in terms of readiness.

I think these days engine is all about power for electronics, mobility is secondary. Stuff like 2 engine for reliability/cost effectiveness is less important consideration than the fact 2 engine give power for electronics matter more. Engine is more of a powerplant than for flying.

They said it is a new type of missile can fit 6 in the belly bay replace 4xPL-15 configuration.
And it's already in service no longer in testing phase.
So it has to be a medium range missile.
Don't know it's a folding wing version of PL-15 or something else. "New" could be anything in this context.

I thought the interesting thing is Yankee said J-20 were involved in 4th of August snap exercise around Taiwan. Even to today ROCMND have not reported any J-20 in ADIZ. As Ayi pointed out if you ever spot a lone YY-20 hanging around in the ADIZ there's potential there that's actually a YY-20 supporting J-20 sorties.
