Prior to massed missile strategies, 7000 losses to 70 000 is about as good at it gets. So no, not a bitter experience by any means.

During 1979, one key advantage was that China knew the Vietnamese forces inside and out. Because they trained them during the America-Vietnam war.

Also Vietnam didn't commit it best troops and opted for conscripts, correctly believing that China wouldn't want to fight a long insurgency battle. But such a strategy meant that the inexperienced troops paid the price in lives and large parts of the north was deindustrialized during the temporary occupation.

Well, China also didn't send the best troops. The best troops was stationed in the north in the fear of USSR invasion

A UK MP goes to Afghanistan, makes a video saying things are actually pretty great, corruption lower, security better, solar panels replacing opium fields. He say UK should re-engage with Afghanistan.

Anyway, he's forced to apologize and delete the video:

"I stand up, I speak my mind. I try and find solutions especially on the international stage, and I'm very, very sorry that my reflection of my visit could have been much better worded and have been taken out of context."

For example, we just made an investment of 100 million in fires. We bought helicopters, we bought planes and so on. Now we will reinforce this even more. Hopefully, when we meet with Mr. Putin, they have amphibious planes and we are thinking of buying maybe a few of them. Because these planes are very effective in extinguishing fires. It dives into the sea, takes its water from there, and then you look at it, it reaches the fire scene within a few minutes and pours the water there. These are of course very important to us. So if we add two or three reinforcements in these, it will be much more effective than our current fleet.

It's true that the strongest units would be facing the north, but being an all professional volunteer force, the training for the southern and northern troops would have been similar, the northern troops would just have had access to the most cutting edge equipment in larger numbers. So it didn't make too much of a difference.

I am actually surprised this country has not sort out. have you seen such protocol with each guest travel like city blocks for one hand shake. Afghanistan is not part of it. It is not that they are ignoring it but they consider it some thing much closer.

The latest from the Taiwan province :

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The head of a Taiwan-based think tank said Taiwanese troops "annihilated" People's Liberation Army (PLA) special forces during a Japanese tabletop scenario simulating a Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

From Saturday to Sunday (July 15-16), the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies (JFSS) held a two-day tabletop exercise simulating a Chinese military invasion of Taiwan in 2027. INSDR Chair Huoh Shoou-yeh (霍守業), a four-star general, participated as an observer in the exercise, symbolizing the "constructive development" of Taiwan-Japan relations, according to Su Tzu-yun (蘇紫雲), director of defense strategy and resources at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR), per Liberty Times. Su said that since the INDSR participated in the form of an academic exchange and under the premise of respecting the organizer, he cannot disclose detailed information. However, Su said that media reports that China occupied Taiwan within one day during the exercise are incorrect.
Su said the invading Chinese special forces were "completely annihilated" by the Taiwanese military during the simulation. This also signifies that the joint command group, led by retired foreign generals, acknowledged the Taiwanese military is capable of executing counter-decapitation missions, Su added.

As for the process of China’s military invasion of Taiwan, Su said that the tabletop exercise focused on the strategic level and did not extend to the combat level. Su stated that in the simulation, the PLA conducted a landing operation from New Taipei City’s Bali District to Hsinchu City's Nanliao Fishing Port.

However, following a counterattack by the Taiwanese military, "most of the landing forces were annihilated, and only a small number of remnants were captured at the beachhead." At this point, the U.N. and other international organizations intervened to mediate a truce, but Taiwan, the U.S., and Japan refused and reached the consensus that they would only agree to a ceasefire when they had succeeded in driving back the PLA forces completely.

Su closed by stating that the scenarios to be rehearsed next week during the 39th Han Kuang exercises, an actual military exercise of the Taiwanese military, closely resemble the scenarios used in this tabletop exercise. Su said this reflects the high degree of realism achieved in the Japanese simulation.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A diabolo coach and four others have been arrested for allegedly recruiting soldiers to serve as spies and attempting to gather military intelligence for China.

A diabolo coach identified as Lu Chi-hsien (魯紀賢), who previously won the Taiwan Diabolo Championship, is suspected of being involved in activities that threatened national security since April of last year, reported UDN. He reportedly made contacts through retired soldiers, pawnshops, and underground moneylenders to approach and recruit former military personnel who had previously served in the military.

This article is again trying to label Russian cooperation with Chinese firms as a negative thing. To these Western journalists. Russian reliance on the West = Good and inevitable. But Russian reliance on China = Become junior partner to China. This is veiled racism and double standards.

Last year, when Western auto-firms pulled out of Russia, their Russian partners and factories were left in limbo. The Russian local auto market suffered for awhile. Then the Chinese firms stepped in. But the article tries to imply, that Russian automakers are doing more assembly than last time, hence more reliance on China. Its BS, these Russian-Chinese collaborations are barely a year old. Off course the Russian side will be importing more parts from China. Besides, what is wrong for Russian automakers to be reliant on Chinese industry? Wasn't the same was happening between Russian and Western companies for decades until just last year? So Russia is actually grateful that the Chinese came to save the Russian auto industry. Those factories need to have something to produce. Those workers get to return to those factories.

China is a big factor why the Western sanctions on Russia failed. The world no longer revolves around the West anymore. Now there are alternatives to the West. Western sanctions are not a death sentence to your economy anymore. This massively infuriates the Western elites. One of their most powerful card is no longer that powerful.
