Such Chinese Americans are, like all racial minorities who have lost most of their heritage, neither Chinese nor American. That is the tragedy of who they are and the root of their identity crisis. Naturally, it is worse for men because they are actively ostracized by the white mainstream, as well as by their own women, who are more able to fit in and so are able to pretend that they're white. The end result is what you would refer to as self-hate - people who hate themselves, the country they came from, and the race they were born as.
It's quite sad.
Excellent summary.
I'd love to see a "Back to China" movement by Chinese Americans some day, similar to Marcus Garvey's "Back to Africa" movement in the 20s.
Plenty of examples have proven those that look Chinese are second class citizens and hate crime targets in the US. There's a reason for the term "bamboo ceiling" here.
However, to a degree much larger than any other country I am aware of, you still see people of cultures and ethnicities going to the same schools, working in the same professions and jobs, and having the same opportunities as everyone else
Russia has over 190 ethnic minorities. China has 56 ethnic minorities. Both have never experienced race riots the scale of George Floyd in their modern history.
More importantly:
Neoliberalism, by concept, is inherently intolerant to other cultures and ways of life. You see that in the current LGBTQQIP2SA movement and their characteristic Western missionary-like zealotry. Western neoliberalism isolates individuals and deliberately tears them from familial structures, such as those practiced in Confucianist societies
Many Chinese Americans growing up indoctrinated by poisonous and perverse concepts like these turn their backs on filial piety, refusing to take care of their parents and sending them to nursing homes, refusing to speak to their parents in anything other than English.
It is exactly as
@FairAndUnbiased says, cultural genocide.
