Well, I think the main issue isn't whether 42 SBD is possible, of course it's possible, but rather, whether it is needed. I am really scratching my head to think of scenarios where there would ever be a need to hit so many targets in one sortie that would not be better served by deploying a small number of air dropped sensor fused weapons.

The only scenario I can think of where so many SBDs would be needed is if you were targeting an enemy airfield that has lots of planes parked on it and which is protected by short range SAMs and land based CIWS like the LD2000, where you need to saturate the defences. A few air dropped sensor fused weapons would do the job just as well, but there would be a much greater chance SAMs or CIWS might shoot them down before they can deploy. But that really is a very specialised niche scenario, and I wonder if it is worth while pursing such an overkill capability just for the off chance such an opportunity presents itself. After all, if a target has such strong point defence capabilities, odds are it would also have medium and long range SAM coverage, so it is questionable if a J16 could even expect to get close enough to use SDBs.

A second possibility is if China was fighting a dispersed urban enemy. In that case the J-16 would have the ability to loiter around the combat area and drop guided weapons whenever resistance pops up.

Check their citations, all the articles are based on that ONE cctv-4 interview with a military enthusiast. In addition, they also cited a Taiwan news report which was based on an article published by a Taiwan based defence magazine. So basically, none of them are authoritative sources. The only authoritative source we have confirming anything is the Russian ITAR-TASS confirming that Russia is not selling Su-35's to China and that there has not been a deal. That's the Russia state media confirming the non-existence of a Su-35 deal, how much more proof do you need?

According to this article the Russians said there's no deal for both planes and subs.

You're probably right, this is something that the AFM hasn't posted before in the several years I have been reading the Daily Report, I have known AFM to be beyond solid 99% of the time, so, and I know that there has been a very recent visit, there are supposedly 4 diesel/electric submarines in the deal as well.. So cruise on over there and check it out for yourselves.????. Of course I think its a very interesting and plausible idea on several levels, but we shall see....Brat

Well, I don't think Li Keqiang even visited Russia, so the credibility of the articles kinda goes down the drain because of that.

If the news of the Su-35 purchase were true, Indians of
the bharat-rakshak forum would be proven true:
the J-20 is just a plastic and plywood contraption.
