I work for the local school system, I'm in a union??? who don't do much for us, I'm a school bus driver/substitute teacher. The bus is 30 hours a week, 4 routes per day. I am very thankful for my insurance, the problem is greedy lawyers and patients, layers and layers of regulation, reporting and govt control, in order to control Drs, Nurses, Hospitals, Pharmacies. Not just to insure safe and excellent care, but in order to TAX, Obamacare is the largest tax increase in the history of the United States, and it does NOT work, we are only now beginning to see truly Govt managed care.

I am thankful my health insurance paid 165,000 or so for my triple by-pass in 09, real thankful, and yes it was a group plan, provided by the Hospice, they paid about 1/2 the premium, I paid the other half. The local Catholic Hospital wrote off the deductibles under a program called "Christian Care", so they settled for what the insurance paid. The air ambulance bill was 15,000 or so for a 40 minute flight to Springfield, in an OLD JetRanger,,, I had a little morphine and Ativan, but I do remember the take-off, and the change in rotor pitch as we began our decent, and I also was awake for the landing. I don't remember much else that day, I had a heart cath that day, and surgery the next morning, I had excellent care, and the DON for the Hospital responded when my wife had concerns, and yes it hurt like HELL!!

Glad your health problems were addressed.

The money for Obamacare ultimately flows to insurance companies and healthcare providers, even if it is to pay for other people's healthcare rather than your own, therefore it is a "tax" on behalf of those industries.

I disagree with the punitive individual mandate requiring everyone to purchase insurance or pay a fine as it amounts to forced consumption to subsidize the healthcare industries and people who choose to use them. There should be free choice for people to not participate.

As a result of excessive corporate influence over government.
Lobbyists, Main Stream Media, Corporations, Labor/Public Employee Unions, Environmental Nazis, and other special interests groups have made Washington DC the den of venality and a cesspool of corruption. They have captured the government to amass power by addicting the poor to bread and circuses, who then vote for more government which enriches the establishment elites.

Pew tracking poll shows Americans' trust of government (and media) have reached historic lows, and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon. Say what you want about the CCP plutocrats, but at least some of them try and do what's best for their country.

That is kinda moving the goal post. Nothing else works in Cuba, I have been there. So having great medical system just means they spend all their money on it and have nothing left for anything else. And if you been there, you would agree they got no money for anything. I'm not talking about just Havana, but the rest of the country.

Other places you have listed are all small populations like Canada. That's why we have great medical services. Large size and population means the spending go up exponentially. Since you will have more transmission and distribution.

exactly ... but my point is Cuba's health system is way way better than the US .. and it seems you agreed

Also Cuba is much much safer than most part of the US and the people are generally happier too

Like you said, it's basically a tax to support increased level of insurance coverage. Like other taxes, you don't get to choose which service you're being taxed for, e.g. you can't say I don't want social security so I'm not gonna pay the social security tax.

In addition, like other taxes for entitlements, it forces productive sections of the society to subsidize unproductive sections. That in and of itself is not necessarily bad, as many of those unproductive individuals are not so by choice (e.g. children, elderly, young pregnant women) and they're the intended targets of entitlements. The problem is that the system is widely abused and many of those unproductive individuals we're subsidizing are simply lazy, so much of the money becomes the diligent subsidizing the lazy, rather than the able subsidizing the unable.

True but don't forget to mention conservative religious institutions and groups are a part of that plutocratic problem as well. They do have their own lobbyist and media to persuade the public and Congress to pass laws in their favor such as NOT paying taxes.

That's one aspect of it. But my point is that the ultimate beneficiaries of the subsidies are not just the consumers who otherwise can't or won't participate but rather the industries the money ultimately ends up with from insurance companies and healthcare providers cascading through to pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies, the vast majority of which are for profit. Therefore this is a subsidy to these industries as the public is being forced to give these companies business and pad their profits.

I don't live in the US, so I can't compare Cuban to american health care system as a whole.

But Cuban health care is good for a poor developing country. I have seen one of their hospitals, a friend ate some bad food and needed some meds, it was relatively clean but kinda run down. The doctors seemed knowledgeable, but then it was just food poisoning, nothing major.

The US still have the best facilities and doctors in the world. Why do you think Saudi royals go there for treatment and not Cuba? Remember that not every Cuban hospital have the best equipment that you and I take for granted in any north american hospital.

Cuba is fairly safe, but then again most places are safe. Its not a measuring stick for health care. Canada is safe, unless you go to east Hastings in Vancouver. US is safe unless you go to east LA or Detroit. I have been to a lot of places in the world, only place I felt truely unsafe was in Peru, when protesters tried to Molotov my hotel.

Also, like samurai said, yes I agree with him on this, close your mouths, Japan's system where you can upgrade to better doctors and facilities is what I want to see in Canada.

Exactly, we are on the same page, as a Christian I love to help people and be able to help people,,, but when I'm having trouble feeding my own family, and lost a decent job?? to subsist as a bus driver for 10 bucks an hour is indeed humbling, but at least I have been able to spend time with my two younger daughters, and have enjoyed subbing at school and teaching some of their classes.

Suprisingly they have enjoyed it too, most days anyway... thankyou for your honest, and accurate assessment, and thank you for being there for those who are truly needy...I worked 21.5 with DD Adults before I started for the Hospice, so I too have a great concern for those who do need help, and I learned that what all people really want is a little "Respect"!
