Ok..now wait a second. I remember the orginal delivery of CVN-78 was 2015. Now I'm reading it was 2016. Sey What?!.. well what was it?

As it appears now WHEN she is delivered her AAG will not even be fully operational and they will perform concurrent testing.

And on another cheerful note I read that the 11 bomb elevators don't work as they should.

That is not good. When I served aboard JFK we were excluded from Vietnam service because our bomb elevators were sub-standard. They were hydraulic & always breaking down..It is my understanding that eventually in the late 70 those elevators were removed and replaced with electric mechanical bomb elevators.

yeah it was 2015 sorry.. March 2016 was the 2nd milestone missed! All in all she would've been likely over 2 years late which is unacceptable for a capital ship like that... and like I said the teething problems and 'known unknowns' delays WERE included in the original timeline.
Her first steel was cut 12 years ago!!!

Nimitz was first in class also and it only took bout 5 yrs to built and already actively deployed 8 years later... and this was done using 1960s technology for the most part using pencils and slide rules.

it's tragicomic only now the delay is mentioned here, I mean differently than with the usual wishful thinking full of 'eventually' 'ultimately' 'will deliver' 'unprecedented' and so on;

some time later I documented how the spin doctors were buying time:
and while September was coming ...

... US Navy’s most expensive ship ever delayed again

the thing is anyone who looked into GAO reports should see the current situation coming; by the way here in the past I've seen though the blame put on journalists; congresscritters; 'an axe to grind'; people with agenda ... and I haven't seen here the blame put on those who came with the idea of stuffing a ship with unproven components (and 'those' are the US Navy), and I haven't seen the blame put on the vendors

Ok Jura..we get your point...Maybe you should work for Uncle Sam.

I think I did..

I'll search later..maybe if I feel like it. we have to babysit some grand children.

To me the blame lays on the shoulders of the;
1) Builder..too much to list...
2) Navy..for allowing so much unproven tech aboard the ship and not being a taskmaster over Huntington Ingalls.
3) Obama administration for not holding Huntington Ingalls MORE accountable for delays & cost over runs.

Right now the Gerald Ford name should be changed to Edsel Ford.. because the ship is a $13 billion dollar lemon....no I'm not serious about this last paragraph. But think about it.

Just in case you don't know..

I did a little....should have noticed all the darkness of this whole situation.

CVN-78 reminds me of this..

...at least Excelsior got underway. What the hey. MAYBE CVN-78 will get underway today!
OT:
Captain Styles got off lucky had he made that comment about the Enterprise speed records, before Scotty had finished sabotaging the Excelsior. Styles would have said "Exicute" and the Nacelles would have flown off, the Warp core would have dropped out, the saucer would have separated, the Captain's chair would have fallen apart and Scottish bagpipes would have blared on the bridge.

you know, all these several years (even before Dec 17, 2014) I've been wondering about one thing: if the people in charge of this (on Political/Navy/Manufacturers sides) were so incompetent, or they're actually skillful in squeezing as much money from the Pentagon as they can (by coming up with 'revolutionary' 'quantum leap' 'transforming the Battlefield of the Future' to increase the funding/profit, instead of just building the Nimitzes, which obviously work but are, well, cheaper)

LOL! please note I'm not talking any Conspiracy or something

Or perhaps it's just the nature of the business of building carriers. Construction of anything bigger than a human being to be able to fit enough to occupy it, whether it is a plane, train, automobiles, buildings and ships will always be difficult.

not sure where you're heading ... do you perhaps mean the delay + cost overrun just happened this way? it's years + billions ...

anyway I consider the Nimitz class the ultimate supercarriers, and I don't believe

so I think they should've kept building the Nimitzes
