True..^^^

Well those mates need to learn to live on what they earn. That's what I did. Not easy at all... but it can be done.

Example...If I was an E-6 with family and over 18 years serving with the USN and stationed in San Diego I'd be pulling down $7,024.99. I was an E-6 when I retired. And my then wife worked.

Example an E4 stationed in Norfolk VA with two years of service will bring in $4,129.99 / month.

saw that footage from the go camera of an SF member now, didn't watch it all, it's like in a movie except it isn't :-(

Yes, its very scary, and it does illustrate just how dangerous the world we live in has become, and NO the US military can't solve everyone's problems...
the problems in Africa are so deep and the culture is strangely not motivated, or if so, is not able to change... I have some very kind and wonderful African friends!, bright, articulate, so brave and Christlike in their personal sacrifice...

One very precious Lady was near suicide, and became a Christian, now she has built an orphanage, she has lost several children this year to typhus, malaria, but they all work, they have a "Ford Tractor", so they do some "custom farming" for others... I thought she was crazy when she showed me some drawings and her plans, but I didn't tell her, I thought? well let her have her dream, now she provides a home to nearly 100 "street kids"!

I'm not that brave or that faithful, not many men I know are, but she is a testimony of the love and grace of God, and she loves me, my wife, my family, just has an endless capacity for love and kindness, she gets malaria nearly every year, yet she soldiers on!

She's the answer for Africa, but she needs to be protected and lifted up in prayer, and Africa is not called the "dark continent" because of the color of peoples skin.... its a very dark, cynical place......

It's the result of 30 years of research and development, and the Resurrection of the M8 Ridgway Airborne Gun system which was all but ready to enter service back in 1997 but never entered production.

in case you didn't know US Navy to scrap scores of fighter jets from its inventory

The U.S. Navy is moving to scrap almost 140 older Hornet fighters from its inventory and accelerate the transition to

in a bid to cut the costs of maintaining old aircraft that have seen hard use over two decades of continuous combat operations.

The Navy projects it will recoup the better part of a billion dollars over the next five years, money used to fund other readiness initiatives both in

and elsewhere.

The plan, hashed out in June, is to strike F/A-18 “A” through “D” models for a total of 136 Hornets, 66 of which will be gone by the end of 2020.

“Two strike board reviews with Fleet, CNO, and NAVAIR personnel determined that 136 aircraft could be authorized for strike because their effective life was consumed and would require significant repair,” said Lt. Lauren Chatmas, a Navy spokeswoman. “The Navy will strike these aircraft over the course of fiscal years 2017 and 2020.”

The Navy thinks this is an opportunity to get some usable spare parts for the in-service jets and help the Marine Corps by sending it the best of the remaining aircraft.

“The decision was based upon readiness risk of existing F/A-18 A-D inventory, long term operational costs versus gain in capability, and the potential to improve USMC readiness by transferring best of breed aircraft to the USMC,” Chatmas said.

The plan recoups about $124 million in 2019 and $852 million across the five-year budget projection, Chatmas said. Four squadrons flying legacy Hornets will transition to the newer versions between now and the end of 2019, she said.

The Navy has been buying batches of Hornets in recent years to replace the ones that are at the end of their service lives. The service has been slow to buy its F-35C, citing development issues.

The Navy’s flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels, will have to sit tight with its legacy Hornets until there are enough “E” or “F” versions available to spare, Chatmas said.

now Congress to ‘balance‘ JSTARS recap with something new, key lawmaker says

Lawmakers will seek “balance” between the U.S. Air Force’s multibillion-dollar program to replace its aging E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System and

, a key congressman said Tuesday.

House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces Chairman Mike Turner, R-Ohio, said the subcommittee’s markup “will try to find the balance of funding taxis and Uber” — an analogy to legacy and new technologies that perform similar jobs.

in favor of a system-of-systems approach that links existing platforms for targeting and command and control. In the meantime, the Air Force would fly the current JSTARS fleet through 2023.

At the McAleese and Associates/Credit Suisse defense conference in Washington, Turner recalled how the Uber analogy was used at an Air Force caucus meeting to argue Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson needs to be able to free up funding for new technologies.

“But I said: ‘Taxis are still on the street,’ ” Turner said. “What that means is either we have to have a smorgasbord of capabilities. And that’s what we’re going to work towards with the secretary. If there is a capability that is absolutely essential, we are going to make sure it’s preserved.”

At the conference, Wilson detailed plans beyond JSTARS ― to develop an advanced battle-management system that connects sensors for an improved understanding of the battlefield, a requirement for combatant commander.

“Think air traffic control on steroids,” she said.

Yet, any threat to JSTARS is likely to face a fight on Capitol Hill.

Georgia’s congressional delegation expressed concern last year, ahead of the Air Force’s reversal of plans to buy 17 new JSTARS recap planes to replace its legacy inventory of E-8Cs.

Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman — the three major U.S. military aircraft manufacturers — were all vying for the prime contractor slot.

as I said, it's going to be interesting to watch this development, 'CSG Lite'

centered on an LHD with F-35Bs

"For example, while the upgunned ESG won’t have an equivalent of a CSG’s E-2 Hawkeye airborne early warning radar aircraft, the F-35’s onboard sensors could expand the targeting ability of the three-ship SAG." (the sentence from the USNI News posted Nov 25, 2016)

paired with Aegis of AB destroyer(s) etc.

hope it's obvious CSG Lite is my classification LOL!

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.), whose district includes the Marinette Marine yard, said at the hearing,
ready to say anything it takes to keep building LCS JUNK:
“I think we all want the same thing: we want, as you laid out, to preserve the industrial base, we want to make sure we have as robust a competition for the frigate as humanly possible, learning lessons from the past mistakes that we’ve made, and also get to 355 in as expeditious but also as sustainable a manner as possible.”
