I think there is enough noise to suggest that a next generation frigate to replace 054A in production is definitely in the works.

As for the commencement ceremony for 055's construction, we may not see or be able to identify its modules until they begin to resemble a hull in the building hall. It might take over a year from commencing fabrication of the first 055's first module until we get to positively ID it under the cover of the building hall.

yes, but it could be called 057 instead of 054B

According to pop3, although the first 055 will only use 130MM main gun, but he comfirmed there are currently two institutes in Beijing working together on rail guns.

He make that comment on the thread with news video regarding the Ma team is doing very well and making some breakthroughs with emals, rail guns and Integrated electric propulsion and get awarded for their achievements.

At the 17th symposium, I think Chinese researchers (civilian and military) submitted the majority of papers. All the conference attendees also went on the USNS Milinocket (sp) to take a gander at its railgun.

Actually, Taipei's strategy is based on repelling an invasion (which they have a reasonable chance of doing, provided they spend enough on A2/AD tech).

But with railguns, the Mainland can just bombard targets on Taiwan on a 24/7 basis, for a very low cost method. Taiwan can't win an artillery duel with the PLA, even if they had railguns of their own. By 2025-2030 (or whenever the PLA or 2nd Artillery has railguns), China won't even need to land troops on Taiwan to create persistent tactical kinetic effects across every square inch of the island.

Taiwan cannot maintain sea or air transport in the face of Chinese opposition so its economy would be dead . The Taiwanese defence is just theatre.
