Z-8 and Z-18 transport helicopter - family & versions

It's a lost cause. I went through about a page of this same kind of back and forth with him using more or less the same talking points you're using, and he just comes back with the idea that AC352 is somehow more mature than Z-20 and straight up copies a wikipedia page as if that is meaningful in any way.

you are still at school you never work in your life all your knowledge is from the web! remember that !
A hanger design to fit 4 ton helicopter will not fit 10 ton helicopter that is for sure.
See before they accept the ship they haul in the model that show how tight fit it is

I work in nuclear industry I don't think there is any industry that is more stringent than nuclear industry
Mil spec is nothing compare to nuclear industry
It all matter to documentation, QA/QC, material verification, calculation, Test etc. The same commercial product make the same Nuclear grade product. It is more expensive because of documentation
But Harbin has been designing mil spec Helicopter for years
So it should have no problem

I work in military industry too and one side of the factory make Diesel Locomotive and the other side make military equipment . the same people , the factory side by side

What test that is so special that it need design recertification Tell me!
In other words, despite you working in the "nuclear industry", you have NO IDEA what mil speccing involves or what length of time it takes to redesign, retest and recertify a civilian helicopter for military use. Thank you for stating this explicitly.

I guess you never heard the term COD. In fact that is now the trend to cut cost, many military equipment now use off the shelve component. The factory I once worked for produced thousand of military equipment using commercial components
It have been battle tested with flying color

Avicopter and Harbin has been building hundreds of military helicopter and they have their own source of military grade component. they already certify for military use

Again, you've got nothing to offer. "Military grade components" that are specific to the Z-15 or even just usable by the Z-15? Which ones? Do you know? No, you don't. So, is the Z-15 ready for the military RIGHT NOW? No, it still isn't.

Z-15 and Z-20 are closer in size/capability to each other than they are to Z-9.

Long-term interests favour fewer platform types. Z-20 can probably become the sole naval type in production going forward.

@Hendrik_2000: thanks for the heads-up on the documentary. Pilger's last film, Utopia, was about Australia's continued poor treatment of its Aboriginal peoples.

Hmmmm ... again some Z-8-related news, ...

A new variant of Z-8 helicopter with wider fuselage is under development.

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

... however but why another Z-8-variant if there's already the AC313 and Z-18-series or why not base it on the new airframe ?

The Z18 is actually a huge helo

But large the helo the better

More equipment more electronics

More the merrier

Basing a new helicopter on Z-8 rather than Z-18 is so nonsensical one can only assume it is a misprint.

As for why: perhaps there is a new engine coming and they are looking to take full advantage of it.

IIRC the Z15 is a 6T class and the Z20 is 9T class helicopter
