Latest close-up images from the newly delivered Hangor-class AIP submarine of the Pakistan Navy during its visit to a Malaysian port reveal several notable features.

Most prominently, the non-penetrating optronic mast showcases a unique rectangular design, indicating the induction of a highly advanced next-generation surveillance and stealth system.

The images also appear to confirm the presence of anti-torpedo decoy launcher openings positioned in an unusual configuration at the extreme rear of the hydrodynamic hull, highlighting further advancements in the submarine’s defensive suite.

Not sure if the mast is rectangular or multifaceted to reduce signature. Maybe the outer layer/sleeve is fixed (but can raise and lower) and the inner rod rotates.

Its probably worth noting that the decoy launcher system has previously appeared on various PLAN Type 039A and B-hulls. However, I am unsure exactly how widespread adaption has been. Notably, the 039C boats we have seen in detail so far havent got it either.

While the lineage is officially tied to the Type 039B family, recent close-up imagery appears to lend further weight to earlier observations that the boats may be closer to a 039C standard in terms of systems and sensors, based on currently available imagery. The sonar aperture arrangement also appears to differ from what is commonly seen on available 039C imagery, which may suggest an export-specific or modified configuration, though this cannot be confirmed definitively from external observation alone.

I had briefly touched upon this possibility earlier in my post #2816 on the Pakistan Armed Forces thread.
