Today saw the first flight of the third SJ-100 (formerly SSJ-100 superjet), the first with Russian PD-8 engines.
Although this prototype still contains some foreign components, subsequent aircraft will be entirely with Russian components, with over 40 systems previously from countries that had imposed sanctions and embargoes on components, now replaced thanks to Russian national industrial collaboration.
' Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov hailed this as proof that Russia's aerospace industry can “overcome any challenge” through technological sovereignty. Analysts suggest that the SJ-100 could become a model for other sanctioned industries seeking self-sufficiency.’
