A photographer has managed to capture what could possibly be the last thing a mouse sees before it becomes an owl's dinner. Amateur photographer Roy Rimmer from Wigan waited ten months for the picture opportunity. Roy acquired a licence to shoot owls in their nest and began taking pictures of a particular owl and her chicks last June. However, not satisfied with stationary owl snaps, Roy began his project to capture the bird mid-flight in November. Roy, 60, said: "I really like how the picture turned out - it's a prey's-eye-view from the perspective of a mouse."

A multi-coloured opal stone, named the Virgin Rainbow is to go on display at the South Australian Museum in Adelaide. The museum believes the 6 cm (2.4 inch) multi-coloured gem unearthed in the Outback is the best opal stone ever found. The stone is said to be valued at more than $730,000 (approx £469,000) and would go on public display for the first time in September to mark the centenary of opal mining in the country.
