LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man accused of gunning down four people outside an overcrowded, unlicensed boarding house in Los Angeles was arrested at a Las Vegas casino-hotel along with three alleged accomplices, police said Tuesday.

The four suspects were found at the Silverton Hotel and Casino less than 24 hours after the slayings and were arrested without incident.

After a request for assistance from Los Angeles police and the FBI, Las Vegas police learned that the suspects were driving a black Audi with no license plates, located the car at the hotel, and watched the suspects through the night until arrest warrants were issued.

Ka Pasasouk, 31, was arrested for investigation of murder, while three others were accused of being accessories to murder, committing robbery, or both, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said at a news conference.

Police said the victims, whose identities have not been released, were visiting friends at a large house in Northridge when they were confronted and fatally shot shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

Detectives were met with a "very grisly tableau" when they found the victims on a front lawn, Beck said. Three of the bodies were found face-down.

Those killed were two women in their mid-20s, a man in his mid-30s and another man in his late 40s, police said.

The suspects will be extradited to Los Angeles in the next couple of days, Beck said.

Glendale resident Howard Alcantara, 30, has been booked for investigation of robbery and aiding a felon. Donna Rabulan, 30, of Los Angeles was arrested for investigation of aiding a felon, and Christina Neal, 31, of Los Angeles was taken into custody for investigation of aiding a felon.

Beck declined to take questions at the conclusion of the news conference, or provide further details about a motive, the suspects or victims, saying the investigation remains active.

City Councilman Mitchell Englander, who represents the area, toured the house and said it was split into units for rent, including makeshift living spaces in the backyard.

He said it appeared to be operating as an unlicensed boarding house with at least a dozen and as many as 17 people living amid old food, trash, mattresses and animal waste. Englander called the living conditions deplorable.

"This is one of the worst and heinous crimes we've seen in our community," Englander said. "This is a community that once again will come together and never forget what happened at this location."

I supposed this only happen in Cambodia.

How serious crime would it be if one drives a car without license plate in the US?

Depends on what state. Many states you just get a ticket. Some states they will arrest you on a misdemeanor charge.

French men not producing as much sperm

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - When it comes to sperm counts, French men aren't what they used to be, according to a new study.
Researchers found that between 1989 and 2005, the number of sperm in one milliliter of the average 35-year-old Frenchman's semen fell from about 74 million to about 50 million - a decrease of roughly 32 percent.
"That's certainly within the normal range, but if you think about it, if there continues to be a decrease, we would expect that we'll get into that infertile range," said Grace Centola, president of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology in Birmingham, Alabama.
And the French aren't the only ones who should be concerned about a lack of swimmers, say researchers.
"A decline in male reproduction endpoints has been suspected for several decades and is still debated all around the world. Geographical differences have been observed between countries, and between areas inside countries," said Dr. Joëlle Le Moal, the study's lead author from the Institut de Veille Sanitaire in France.
Le Moal and her colleagues write in the journal Human Reproduction that global analyses have found decreases in sperm counts, as did recent studies in Israel, India, New Zealand and Tunisia.
Centola, who wasn't involved with the new research, told Reuters Health that she's found similar results in a group of young sperm donors from Boston, too.
For the new study, Le Moal and her colleagues used a database of France's 126 fertility clinics that recorded men's semen samples from 1989 through 2005.
The researchers narrowed their study to 26,600 samples provided by men whose female partners were later found to be infertile. That, they say, minimizes the risk that the men had a fertility problem.
Over the 16-year period, the researchers found there was about a 2 percent annual decrease in the number of sperm in one milliliter of the average man's semen.
"One would look at that and say it's not all that much. It isn't, but if it's occurring on a yearly basis it can add up," said Centola.
"Clearly if this type of decrease continues, we're going to find that we're going to have young men that have low sperm counts," she said.
The World Health Organization defines anything over 15 million per milliliter of semen as normal. However, the study's authors suggest that it may take longer for men with counts in the lower range of normal to conceive.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS?
The researchers also found that there was an increase in the number of abnormally shaped sperm over the study period, which can also influence fertility.
Part of that finding, however, can be explained by scientists getting better at recognizing misshapen swimmers, but not all of it.
"So both results are important," said Le Moal.
But why does it seem men are shooting more blanks than before?
Two recent studies have actually suggested that modern technology such as laptops may be capable of cooking sperm, but the new researchers suggest it could be also be other environmental factors, such as increased exposure to harmful chemicals that may decrease sperm count. But Le Moal said it's also important to consider that men's lifestyles may have changed over time. For example, men may be more sedentary and/or heavier than they were in 1989.
"I think it's a combination of a lot of things," said Centola, who added that it could be both environmental factors and diet.

Bodies of flash flood victims lie on the ground as villagers look for their missing relatives after Typhoon Bopha hit New Bataan in Compostela province, southern Philippines December 5, 2012. Bopha, the Philippines' strongest typhoon this year, was headed towards tourist destinations on Wednesday after hitting a southern island, destroying homes, causing landslides and killing at least 82 people, but many more are reported dead and missing. I wasn't aware it was the Western media that placed that ox tongue on China's passports :p.

I can post relevant non-western source articles highlighting their concerns if you so desire. Though old, they would be world news, if not necessarily breaking.
.......

It was also Western media that ad lib about China boarding ships in general in the South China Sea when all articles from Chinese media stated Hainan province's waters which is merely a part of the South China Sea. Subtle but very significant differences. Level headed agencies asked for clarification instead of raising arms in the air and screaming bloody murder. :p

I remember certain media a few months back claiming a Chinese cargo ship ran over a Filipino fishing boat and did not render assistance. Then it was a cargo ship based in Hong Kong. Then it was the fishing boat stalling and drifting into shipping lanes. Then it was the cargo ship didn't run over the fishing boat but didn't render assistance. Sensational reporting without factual verification doesn't help with objectivity. It does help with viewership and ratings.

It's not necessarily a crime to drive a car without a license plate in the US. For instance, you buy a new car in California and you have up to 90 days to drive it without plates so long as you have your paper registration taped to the front windshield. It used to be up to 6 months. Steve Jobs always leased his Mercedes and traded it in every 6 months. He always drove without plates and it was legal.

Dunno about the French and others , but the reason why us NZders have a low sperm account is because we do it more often:p

Once again, the nine-dash line is *dashed* for a reason. If China claimed the entire South China Sea, it would be a solid line, not a dashed one. The dashed lines represents all the islands within that area, as in accordance to UN law. A nation can only claim land areas; any territorial seas stem from the lands that they claimed.

China has never, in any media publication, ever claimed the South China Sea. It has always claimed the *islands* of the South China Sea. Read any Chinese source on this issue, and you will realize that. Yet, this distinction is never mentioned by English media.

I never read an article that said that was what China would do, but that with lack of clarification that was a potential (though imo very remote) outcome.

I won't deny there are any articles making the false claim that that is what would happen though, just because I havn't read them all so I wouldn't know.

Frankly the clarification turned out to be better than my own thoughts on what it would apply to, so i'm glad about that.
