i just wanted to know the international makeup of our community. Tell your country and anything you would like to say about it. I think we all might learn a bit from this.

I'm from the US; southern California to be specific.

Well, my story is a bit more complicated. My parents are from Taiwan, Oriental descent. (I've never been tossing around the word "Asian" because generally when people use it they refer only to Orientals, and I think that's kinda unfair to the rest of Asia, Indonesia, Phillipines, Vietnam, India, Pakistan... you get the idea. Same reason why I don't like the phrase, "Asian Culture". But I digress)

I was born in Florida USA since my Dad went to Grad School there, later on moved to several different spots in the States until the summer of 5th grade, when I moved to Taiwan. I spent 7 years there, graduating from high school last summer, and then moved to Ann Arbor Michigan, USA, to go to college.

So I always pause whenever someone asks me, "Where are you from?"

Generally most people say the last place they lived or were born, but then I haven't been to the place I last lived in the States for 7 years or so, but I wasn't born in Taiwan either...

I end up telling them Taiwan now. It makes more sense than saying South Bend Indiana...

I am in a similar situation to Zergling--moved around my whole life every three years or so. I just tell people I am from where I graduated highschool from since my parents still live there and I was very impressionable during those years--that would be Memphis, Tennessee. But I was born in Germany, lived in the UK 6 yrs., in the US lived in Las Vegas, Virginia, St. Louis, and as mentioned Memphis. Now I live in Germany.

I guess for this thread US origin is enough.

So far:

US-2
China-1/2
Taiwan-1
Finland-1
UK-1/2
Australia-1/2

If a person said that they wer born somewhere and live somewhere else, I gave half of the person to each country. A couple people had that situation but siad "I am from ..." so I figured that is what they considered their "homeland" so that is where I put them. If you want to be all in one country, say "I am from..." or something along those lines, especially if it is a confusing;) situation. Anyway, I think I might keep a running tally, but then again I might forget about. We'll see.

Thanks, Finn
