Ford i have read in service for 2016, no end 2015 he seems.
Nice thing about the Ford class is that they will not need the refueling process. That's a very costly mid-life exercise and takes them out of service for almost four years. With the Ford's, they will not have to do this.

Naval Technology said:
The US Navy's second Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), Coronado (LCS 4), has successfully completed acceptance trials, marking a milestone prior to the delivery of the ship to the US Navy this year.

The four-day trial was conducted following completion of a series of graded in-port and underway demonstrations for the navy's board of inspection and survey (INSURV), to validate the performance of the ship's propulsion plant, ship handling and auxiliary systems.

During the tests, the ship used both the 7m and 11m rigid hull inflatable boats to conduct launch and recovery operations as well as performing a four-hour full power run, surface and air self defense detect-to-engage exercises.

The navy also demonstrated the ship's maneuverability, performing tight turns and reaching speeds in excess of 40 knots.

INSURV president Rear Admiral Robert Wray said: "[This was] the most complete and rigorous trial on the Independence variant to date.

"The littoral combat ships have been designed to thwart threats in coastal waters where increasingly capable submarines, mines and swarming small craft operate."

Milwaukee (LCS 5), Detroit (LCS 7), Little Rock (LCS 9) and Sioux City (LCS 11) are currently being constructed at the Marinette Marine shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin, US.

Meanwhile, Austral USA is constructing Jackson (LCS 6), Montgomery (LCS 8), Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) and Omaha (LCS 12) at its shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, US

here's a little something to wet our appétit. Osprey tankers are here.

Nice...very nice indeed. If they start putting these aircraft on carriers and have it fulfill the tanking role...it will open the door to the ASW bird too.

And, if it can refuel a Hornet, it can refuel and F-35B too. So, if they get the tanker version on the LHAs and LHDs...how far behind can the AEW version be?

Economies of scale.

I am a believer in the concept of the common support aircraft. We have begun to see that materialize with the FA18 series and I think V22 has the potential to fill the roles not suited to a fighter.

JSDF had placed requisition on acquiring some V-22s for next year budget to be placed on the JS Hyuga, JS Ise and JS Izumo. With these I believe JMSDF in tandem with JASDF can devise a robust air defense plan when necessary. A pit stop in the sky you might say.
