“There’s a temptation because the Chinese military is untested from a combat perspective, to sort of say, well, maybe they’re just as feckless as the Russian forces were. I think that would be a mistake,” Flournoy said. “You know, I don’t think we should say they’re 10 feet tall, [and] they have their own problems and their own challenges, and they are untested. But they’ve also made tremendous strides in the professionalization of the force, particularly over the last decade, and I don’t think we should underestimate them.”

and once again these American military talking heads demonstrate that they are not any better than the typical neocon/neolib thug/think tankers. They keep promoting US belligerence, keep demonstrating a general lack of responsibility and a general lack of self awareness, essentially operating in a fantasy world. This malign behavior keeps challenging global peace and stability and eventually the true free world will have to confront these 21st century wannabe rulers of earth.

AbramsX technology demonstrator.jpg

Picture of Abrams X demonstrator technology.

Hybrid Engine, Battery and Fuel driven, which allows for Silent maneuvering on Battery Mode and longer operational times with the fuel reserved.

Slots to put sensors and launchers are visible.

Side Skirt design allows for signature reduction and reduces dust clouds when driving over dry road.

Supposedly has a capacity of 64 smoke grenades.

Photo supposedly taken at Lima Army Tank Plant (LATP).

Actually a good contender for next gen MBT more so than T-14. This tank making use of totally new drivetrain/ powertrain is going to be what defines next gen MBT. T-14's unmanned turret design and comprehensive APS set it apart when it was revealed but APS exists for any tank and can be modified for. Unmanned turret isn't exactly that advantageous outside of better crew survival but it's not like crews are certainly safe in an unmanned turret tank so...

Obviously overall use of newer technologies but the main thing that sets this apart is the drivetrain. The Japanese were first to incorporate a CVT into their Type 10 and the Koreans did some nifty suspension system but none of those are really groundbreaking in the way a hybrid tank is. Hybrid and full electric tanks simultaneously impress me and make me lol.

Is it?. It still is a modified M1 hull with all the limitations it might impose upon the turret, crew and systems, not unlike the T-72B to T-90M jump

I believe GD mentioned that the M1-X is more of a steppingstone towards a true next-gen MBT. I guess the logic is that by using a modified M1 hull you reduce risk, while still be able to make major improvements overall.
