US military influence in japan

Reading this, it seems to me that US has great "influence" in japan. Criminal suspects in US custody dont get transfered to japanese custody unless indicted? US military not obliged to reveal its military exercice plans in advance?
(i dont know if there are more rules of this kind betwen )

Is it normal to a foreign country military to have such an independence from the host nation? IMO, foreign country military should be fully accountable to the laws of the host nation and not have this kind of "liberty".
What do you think?

Japan is not yet a normalized country. Relation between US and Japan is not like with her other allies, despite superficial resemblance on the surface.

Poor Okinawa. First the Japanese conquer you and are unwillingly forced to submit to Japanese rule. Now after years of rule and integration still being force by Tokyo to host foreign bases and troops despite widespread local disapproval and anger.

It's called NIMBY and everyone is guilty of it.

US Japan relationship is still of that master and servant. I hate to say it, US have Japan by the balls since WW2 and never let it go.

The protest against US military presence in Japan is one of the strongest issue in Japan politics. And yes, when push come ot shove, the Japanese government is willing to loose their job to appease the US government.

This is a shame, because Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama was actually a decent guy.

I read an article recently by a Japanese author, he talks exactly about this, how US have strong influence over Japan politics, and anyone that does not play by the ball will soon step down from politics from the pressure of rest of the bureaucratic elites.

But this is not to say that Japanese enjoys the current situation, I think the Japanese are very proud and independent people in fact there are a lot of Japanese have strong resentment over US hold of them, and there has been many attempt by them to break free of the US influence as early as 1970s, but they have all failed.

I personally have this theory that this island dispute between Japan and China is totally instigation by US, NOT just for the sake of contain China, but for the sake of tighten their leash on Japan. Because Japan hates US as much as they hates the Chinese, therefore it was a very smart move for US to stir up Japan to against China to strengthen their own hold over Japanese influence.
