Besides rare earth export regulations, another bad news for F-47 is that China is killing Boeing's cash sources.

Shares of Boeing fell Tuesday following a report that China has halted the delivery of all its jets to airlines in the country as part of an escalating trade war that has enveloped the world’s two biggest economies.
Boeing is particularly vulnerable to the current trade disputes between America and its trading partners. Unlike many multinational companies, Boeing builds all of its planes at US factories before sending nearly two-thirds of its commercial planes to customers outside the United States. And Boeing is a major part of the US economy, contributing an estimated $79 billion and supporting 1.6 million jobs both directly and indirectly. It has nearly 150,000 US employees of its own.
Boeing has been struggling for six years, racking up $51 billion in operating losses since 2018, the last year it reported an annual profit. China is the world’s largest market for aircraft purchases, with Boeing’s own recent analysis estimating that Chinese airlines are expected to purchase 8,830 new planes over the next 20 years.
Deliveries are crucial to Boeing, since that’s when it gets paid. The company builds the plane first and gets most of its payment after delivering the finished product. Choking off these deliveries is a particularly big blow for Boeing, which had a total of 55 planes in inventory at the end of 2024 that it has not been able to deliver to customers, primarily those in China and India
, according to the company.

Like Kendall, I also doubt whether Boeing is still capable of moving on F-47 development. But it's more about China's sanctions.

An Air Force official claimed the canard configuration is not necessarily the actual design.
China’s J-20 Mighty Dragon fighter, whose stealth Air Force officials have characterized as being in the same class as that of the F-22, employs a canard and delta wing design, but deflection of those control surfaces have to be managed extremely carefully so as to not to break the angles required to be low-observable to radar.

LMFAO we still win!

It sounded like whatever design was on offer didn't make Kendall happy. In fact he sounded like he wished there was a DCA fighter with Command & Control abilities for drones... which sounds awfully like what the J-36 is meant to do.

I have a feeling that DoD increased its budget to $1 Trillion because they have to pay extra to smuggle rare earths magnets now that China's cut off the supply.

That's why all export license is subject to review, if any country/company is found out re-exporting rare earth to US they'll have their export license revoked. US DoD will have to extract rare earth out of washing machines

To be honest, i fully expect that after finding out about the J-36 and J-50, whatever Boeing had on their design sheet is now frantically modified in light of the CHADs unveilings. Hence the CGI showing almost a nothinburger (because Boeing doesn't really have anything remotely close to an EMD design to show for now). This is perhaps not unlike the history of the Sukhoi T-10 and the redesigned T-10S, because the original design was found severely lacking against the F-15.

The contract award was probably a rushed face saving affair by the pompous POTUS (probably so was the selection, they probably chose what they thought was the closest design that could be made to match the CHADs, likely the J-50 serving as the yardstick), as well as the POTUS ego massaging promise that the F-47 will fly by late 2028. I think we can bet good money that it will almost certainly not happen by 2028.

That being said, like i was yammering before, China needs to put the foot down and press even harder. The recent flight test frequency for the CHADs seems to be indicative of that, which is good.

Given how the GCAP/Tempest is supposed to have its first flight in 2027, if the F-47 doesn't take to the skies before the end of Trump's 2nd term, I will conclude that the U.S. aerospace industry is probably irredeemable.
