If the PLA does come up with an army of drone tanks controlled by command tanks/APCs, then they better come up with good ways of keeping those command centres safe from the enemy. Otherwise the destruction of a single command tank/APC could mean the "destruction" of 10 (perhaps?) drones.

Of course I'm sure there are ways to regain control between the drone computer and a different command console if the drone's previous controller got killed.

Yes, what all of you said makes sense and is great. However I was just wondering, if the idea is good... or perhaps decent, why no country ever came up with it? Sure, they do have remotely controlled UGV or UCGV, but really not in great numbers and importance.

There must be a downside to it that no one bother with this idea. I am exploring, why was it the case?

The Israelis use such a vehicle to patrol borders with Gaza and Lebanon, as a way of defeating Hamas/Hezbollah's tendency to plant IEDs along border patrol routes.

Thanks for the link, Finn. It provide some insight.

I was wondering if the Israelis would use full size remotely controlled MBT in greater numbers, and with heightened importance, wouldn't it also have lesser effect on them (casualty rate speaking) during the Lebanon war?

There must be something that is not covered that is the main problem which actually deter the mass deploying of UCGV.

To me the vehicle looks more like a Dune Buggy than a tank as Rhino invisioned. Another thing is that the vehicle is an AUTONOMOUS robot, not a remote controlled device. It is much harder to create an autonomous vehicle than it is to make a glorified RC tank.

Yes the distinction between remote control and autonomous is very large. DARPA had/has a competition for an autonomous vehicle that can drive a 20 mile road course or something like that I don't think any of the entries were totally successful.

yep...today UCGV like US Thalos or Russian "Terminator" need to stick with human when operate, but right I think China have a project in this field, this is future combat platform , you know if you didn't do someone out there will do something.
In future we hope to see "infantry" UCGV fight side by side with soldier, and tanks/ armoured vehicle can fight more effectively without human crew, but it later when the technology is mature.
I ever read in internet some thesis done by PLA officer this type of weapon is mentioned, he call it robo-tank (translated in English), so there's probability this UCGV matured somewhere in China.

I read somewhere that we can already create some sort of automated robot vehicle using motor and android phone...

android phone has gps, processing power and even network over gprs (internet), it also has input output (usb) port to handle controller and even camera...
so you can make it automatic via gps location, or drive it via internet.

lastly you can
1. put some bomb and make it smart-IED, very usefull against tank and if the robot is small enough.
2. put recon device, make it smart-recon-bot
