RAC "MiG" will join the company "Sukhoi"

At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference "Basic Problems and Trends in the Development of the Aircraft Industry of the Russian Federation and Addressing the Issues of Improving Governance and Import Substitution in the Industry" at the Headquarters of PJSC United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) in Moscow, UAC - Combat Aviation "(Directorate of Combat Aviation Programs) report presented a five-year plan for the development of this division for the period until 2022.

The main point of this plan is the actual liquidation of RAC MiG by merging it with Sukhoi Company, with the subsequent formation of a single structure and a single design bureau based on Sukhoi. According to the submitted schedule, the takeover of RAC "MiG" "Sukhim" should be implemented during 2017-2018.
ВIn support of this decision, the report says that RAC "MiG" has now lost its importance as an independent developer of aviation equipment, actually engaged in the last 15 years, only works on the modernization of fighters of the MiG-29 and MiG-31 families. At the same time, it is pointed out that the potential for upgrading the MiG-29 platform is almost exhausted and the development of this combat aviation complex can not be realized with a satisfactory correlation of the parameters of "cost" and "efficiency."

According to the presentation presented to the report, the mass production of MiG-29K aircraft will not be resumed, and the serial production of the MiG-29M / M2 will be halted by 2020 after the contract with the foreign customer [Egypt] is realized. Technical and design support for the MiG-29K, MiG-29SMT and MiG-29M, as well as the MiG-31, in the process of operation and modernization, a special group consisting of Sukhoi, formed on the basis of RAC MiG, can be sold, the report indicates.

It is also indicated that the former main production site of the RSK MiG in Moscow (formerly MAPO) is subject to transfer by decisions of the management of the UAC and the city of Moscow under the redevelopment (most likely the construction of the technopark), and the production site No. 1 of the MiG branch in Lukhovitsy in the current Economic conditions without large investments can not be successfully used for the mass production of military or civil aircraft of other types. In this connection, according to the presented plan, the production complex in Lukhovitsy, having entered the Sukhoi branch as a branch, should be reoriented to produce aviation components in the interests of all divisions of the UAC.

The forthcoming inevitable reduction in the growth of military spending and the alleged "severely limited nature" of the State Armament Program for 2018-2025, according to the report, require large-scale measures to restructure the development and production of combat aviation in the Russian Federation in order to reduce costs and prevent the dispersion of funds. The formation of a unified structure of the developer and a serial manufacturer of combat aircraft on the basis of the Sukhoi company will be the main activity of the UAC for achieving the assigned tasks in this segment.

According to the presentation to the report, the development of the perspective light fighter of the fifth generation (including in partnership with the UAE) is also being carried out by Sukhoi Company on the basis of its own advance design.
