Congratulations to Palestine for their victory to non-membership state recognition at the UN! Unfortunately I am ashamed our country is one of the few 9 member states who voted against it. As a nation where national values include respect and tolerance of the existences of different groups, we had betrayed ourselves and our definitions. I'm disappointed to say this, but I feel our vote tells us we had reverted back to a '94-Rwandan Genocide era Western attitude.

Yes, Harper is more pro-Israeli then both Chretien and Martin combined.

We all know that a permanent peace between Israel and Palestine will never be possible and the side stuck in the ghetto will suffer 10 times more casualty. It's simply the way the world works...

Harper has hijacked our Canadian values thanks to a vote split on the left. The Liberal party needs to get its act together and turn things around.

This post got me thinking whick 9 countries actually voted against the resolution other than obviously the US and Israel. Now I know from the news article namely,

United States,
Israel,
Canada,
Czech Republic,
Panama,
Nauru,
Palau (COFA (Compact of Free Association) associated states with the United States),
Micronesia (COFA (Compact of Free Association) associated states with the United States),
and Marshall Islands (COFA (Compact of Free Association) associated states with the United States)

The US couldn't exercise a veto? I love how all these Paicific islands voted no. If China were at the lead, you would hear how the vote was manipulated by economics not humanitarian. It just shows like at Copenhagen these island nations can be manipulated for economic interests. The Czech Republic... that puts the icing on the hypocritical cake since they supported causes for people against outsiders ruling them.

Does anyone have the list of countries that abstained?

I remember reading this post or news stating that most of the states that voted No were pretty much American satellites, so it's expected, and of course their votes aren't important. On the other hand, Canada is the only bigger states, and the biggest of all other than US and Israel to vote No, so the only thing I can say to this is it feels like a close family member voting "non-guilty" to the verdict of a mass murderer while everyone says guilty. Canada is supposed to lead by example, and our actions really makes me feel we had long fallen out of grace. If anything, this is the biggest thing I disagree with Harper, along with him and his foreign policies. Baird didn't strike me much of a good man neither in his condemnation. Israeli vacuum cleaners sold in Canada, that's all I'd think of them.

As for the abstains, they are probably the ones who are against but still possesses some senses to not vote No directly. That should include UK and some other EU states if I recall right. The fact even some less free states would rather abstain or even vote Yes rather than vote No showed more sympathy than we do. Total embarrassment in the sense we are being obvious concubines to Israel and US to the point our suck-up attitude is spilling all the way out before the GA Hall. Canada being one of the few that voted No really puts shame onto my face and other fellow Canadians.

..and that I still haven't start mentioning about how we're closing embassies everywhere...can someone tell me if Harper's family background is supposed to be part American, part Israeli?

Likely the real reason is that they can't afford to keep those embassies open with the huge deficits they're accumulating. :D

Canada cannot defy the US on the Palestine vote because of the same high deficit and because its economy is dependent on US just like most of these small islands. So why even bother with an embassy without an independent policy. You do not see Marshal Island, Marianas Island or Palaiu Island embassies around the world. Do you?

Also. Canada recently stopped issuing the Canadian Penny and will accept the US Penny instead. See the Pattern of dependency.

That pattern of dependency was created by the Conservatives as well. The previous Liberal government had built a robust international economic, but the Conservatives were busy trying to destroy it during their first five years. Even now, they're making completely retarded decisions, like going to China to solicit investment, then start crying about national security when CNOOC tries to invest in a Canadian oil company.
