Type 95 Assault Rifle II

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

Yesterday I was watching the Future Weapons show, and they said that US would gradually phase out all the current assault rifles using 5.56*45mm bullets because these shells didn't have stopping power. Instead, they will phase in Robinson Armanents XCR assault rifle using caliber 6.8*43mm. This type of rifle is the best that they have ever made because of its reliability. The internal design of this rifle is very similar to HK 416 assault rifle by directing all the gasses away from the internal components of the gun. My question is why China went from 7.62 down to 5.8mm while US will go from 5.56 to 6.8mm. Does 6.8 actually have more stopping power than 5.8mm because it has more kinetic energy? Any Ideas?

This is incorrect.

There is no plan for the US to replace the existing NATO compliant 5.56mm weapons in favour of 6.8mm weapons. This would require going back to NATO and trying to find consensus for a adoption of a new calibre.

Instead, the US is upgrading the existing weapons, and issuing the new MK262 Mod 0 round, which is more lethal than the current SS109 or M855 round. This round was originally designed for the M-16 derived marksman weapons as a longer range, more accurate round.

Replacing the NATO round would be a huge headache, it doesnt just require the US but all nations currently using the 5.56x45 rounds and thats a big ask. The 5.8x42 rounds claim to have reasonable accuracy comparable if not par to NATO rounds, but have adequate stopping power.

6.8x43 round would be much more heavier and the magazine would need to be longer to fit the same amount of 30 rounds if it were the 5.56x45 rounds. The round was offered in the cancelled XM8 project as LSW and DMS

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

how's the accuracy of type-95 assault rifle hitting 500m and 1000 meter target?
according to the book "AK-47 story" US army discover bullet tend to wobble when leave the gun barrel, this affect her accuracy. so they decided to use Sandia lab Cray super computer to redesign the groove.and barrel itself, result was new generation M-16A3(?) carbine.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

Well, if the Russians managed to make reliable as heck 30 rd magazines for their 7.62x39s, then this should not be a problem for the US, but yes, trying to change is a very big favor to ask. Rifles like G36 and Tavor have just came out and no one would be pretty faced when such a issue comes around.

What's you mean by wobbling? Like traveling in the path of a ribbon on the sides of ice cream cone?

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

The 1000m range is beyond the rifles effective area. Even if you can hit a target that far it is neither visually plausible or neccessary in today battlfield. Even 500m is still pushing the envelope for todays urban conflicts. If you want to hit a target accurately in the 1km mark then you would need a bolt action rifle, or if you dont want such "as" accuracy a semi auto DSM rifle.

Remember the T95 wasn't designed for precision sniping shots spreading out to 1000m but for urban conflict engagments anyway from 50m-350m. Hitting a target 500m you must be having a really lucky day and clear eyesight, unless you have a scope of course. But then it'll narrow your area view down to couple feet.

M16A4 is the current generation of Us military M16 and the only difference between it and the M16A2 is the removable carry handle and addition of rails to the hand guard most combat for infantry is under 100 meters but reaching farther is all ways a plus as you never know where the mutant militant is going to pop up from.

Type 95 will eventually replaced all the AK type rifle in the PLA. Within the next five years you are going to see the world second largest army carry the bull-pup configuration assault rifle!!!

AK type rifle was already replaced in the 80s, by the Type-81. Recent pics indicate Type-95 will not be the sole assault rifle. The Type-03 is being issued at least in small numbers.

What do you mean by recent pics? I don't think the pictures I have last seen of Type 03 in fielding are recent, more like half to a year old. They seem to be experimental fieldings at best, so I'm not sure if Type 03 will be fielded concurrently with the Type 95, at least the frontlines are all equipped with the Type 95 now.

The PLA seems to have developed a personality around the Type 95, with "propaganda" pictures and photos showing the strength of its soldiers armed with the Type 95. Not to mention the many exercises with foreign countries and PLA soldiers seen carrying the weapon. Therefore, it's very unlikely another 5.8mm weapon will be fielded to replace or serve concurrently with the QBZ-95 (Type 95) any time soon.

Type 95 is more or less of the national pride of China. Just like the Panda
