I think that's the idea. It's no good if the rations are too tasty and being consumed too quickly.

lol never thought of it that way...damn those bastards have been takin advantage of my strict preferences.
well where i serve we do have m&m or cookies as part of the ration. i just put the ration part in my tac vest and keep the yummy part in my pocket lol. when you are out there diggin trenches in the middle of nowhere this could be the only comfort.

You ever get the feeling that they're looking more like MRE's?

Even the packaging says "individual" on it.

On side note, I read that MRE's typically have 5 year shelf life. Everyone here should probably buy some emergency food and store it at home, in case of emergency. No, your box of instant noodles actually doesn't have long shelf life.

When I was young & living in TW, we had these hard biscuits for emergency rations. Not sure what kind of shelf life they had but it was still edible after 1-2 years. @_@;;;

For those in the US, check out Mountain House #10 cans. Freeze dried and will last for 20+ years. Kinda expensive though.

I grew up in Shanghai and bought some of those biscuits for curiosity, back in late 70's. Not bad. They sold them in the food/candy stores. I believe those were surpluses from the 1978 Sino-Vietnam war.

That's awful taste is crucial to compress biscuits. If they test good, you might eat too much of it in one meal.

This artical is only the part 1. ChinaSMAK didn't translate the Part 2.

the biscuit would expand as you mix it with water, i've heard stories of people been rushed to the hospital becuase they over ate while forgot to notice that the stuff would expand when you drink water.

The small one is actually still the compressed biscuit. The second one is dry sausage parch with rice. It's a common Chinese dish, generally has some vegetables.

These food can be heated by put some water into the dissection of the bag. They are used only in extreme cases. In exercise, soldiers always have hot food.
