I genuinely wish lasting health upon the man, Trump is very very very good for China. We all know a decoupling is going to happen but he is going about it in the dumbest way possible causing maximum damage to US while most likely failing to decouple in the mean time. I'd much prefer Trump versus another Democrat snake, people don't call him 川建国 for no reason

This news is pretty big. The bans are global so there's no way for the US to reroute purchases. Heavy rare earths is essentially on a timer until stockpiles run out.
Good chance that Musk who is now a friend could end up being an enemy and be directly part of the military industrial complex. Starlink and SpaceX are already heavly reliant on us govt $. Maybe one day his AI will be used by weapons etc.
I think an immediate blockade on Taiwan and a pre-emptive strike on US WESTPAC assets would be the nail in the coffin. By destroying forward deployed assets, China would force the US into a prolonged conflict where the stockpile timebomb would be catastrophic for the US. There is simply no way for the US to spin up alternative sources for heavy rare earths in the timeline it takes for Taiwan to fall under offensive mining and standoff fires.
