The reason is because there is no benefit but high cost. America's military power is such that small bases would be indefensible and fail to encircle it in a war. Nuclear strikes are still the best option for attacking the American homeland in case of WWIII. China's military build-up is still the fastest in the world by far.
And yet China, not the US, is expanding its territory while deterring America and all its Western henchmen as well as its cockroach in a box, the Philippines. It’s just totally unrealistic expectations and really showing the low level of mathematical/logical/critical thinking ability of the population who believes this.
The main iPhone plant of Foxconn employs 200,000 people. American sales account for about 40% Apple’s revenue, so that would translate to 80,000 workers. There is no urban infrastructure that exists in America to build a factory of that size. GM’s largest plant only employs 5000 people and is huge. 80,000 is a fairly large town on its own in the US.
Also as someone else mentioned, are you going to open the floodgates to migrants? The unemployment rate is only 5%, this is considered full employment by most economists. Even if we consider some amount of people as underemployed, you would still need to fill that vacancy if they take the “better” iPhone screw job.
Even in China you can’t find that many people in one city to work in the factory. They have to scour the entire country to find workers and they live in dorms. Outside the military, almost no employment has such an arrangement in the US. On top of this, the arrangement is heavily influenced by the HSR network to facilitate the movement of people.
It’s a common misunderstanding that these jobs were “lost” to China… no they never would exist outside of China.
