I can't help but suspecting that Little Marco is helping China to cure its west-worshipping 崇洋媚外 illness. I mean how stupid can you be to target those liberal pro-West Chinese elites and intellectuals/businessmen? They are the last bastions of liberals and representative of anglo narratives within China. This is another level beyond shutting down VOA. As someone who has extensive experience working with Chinese "dissidents", shouldn't Marco be able to see through this? Imagine if Ronald Reagan were to shut down VOA and deport Russians living in the US in the 80s.

This has been in the works for a while. The main issue is that they will likely make exceptions for Chinese students studying things they want them to be studying - ie liberal arts, Western politics, Western law, etc. that will make them susceptible to Western influence & espionage when they go back to China. China needs to put pressure on the US embassy in China in response to a move like this - e.g. force them to no longer issue any student visas to the US, if that's the way the US wants to play it.

Don't just allow the US to continue to farm Chinese students for $$$ for "prestigious" liberal arts degrees where they then go back home and join the West worshipping Chinese liberals that are so prominent in certain sectors. If the US wants to cut academic ties, then China needs to respond in kind by ceasing all funding for American universities.

The people going to the US to study in STEM/Finance/etc won't waste their time in the US to study for a degree that will have no use in China and will have near 0 chance of h1b/opt visa to stay in the US.. The people studying it today do it because either that is their passion or their rich parents just want their kid to get a easy US degree.

I realize that. What I'm saying is, China should take steps to avoid any money from China going to US universities. Don't just allow the US to restrict what you can study but still continue to pay the US to study Western ideological propaganda.
