I am beginning to wonder if we are going to see the steam behind the executive order barrage sails run out over the next couple of weeks? We still don't exactly know if anything Trump has attempted to do is going to have lasting or even any impact overall.
If the destruction of USAID is real and final, then there will be no way to rebuild such an organization quickly, even after Trump leaves office. A full 4 years means people will have moved on, both inside and funded by the organizations.

Right, it was American hard power and the platform it created. All cultural influence is conducted by hard power. Poor countries like Somalia or Nauru can say the exact same things, more eloquently than Americans can ever put it, and it will all fall on deaf ears because there is no effect without hard power conductance. Americans can be as stupid as they want and Europeans/Japanese/Koreans will follow/listen/accept, even if they don't want to, because America has the hard power to conduct its words. Explain why the west was able to run psyops all over China and STILL did until usaid pulled funding. It doesn't matter if America had more hard power since China is controlled by Chinese people. According to your own claim, Chinese control should be able to kill any foreign psyops within their borders.

Remnants of the previous power balance when American power was undeniably dominant. People listen to the dominant hard power. China has an advantage influencing its own people, of course, but that advantage has to be balanced against the American advantage of globally dominant power. When these 2 effects clash (dominant hard power attraction vs home turf control), the balance and result achieved was that some Chinese became liberalized while most were protected.
