When a country like US which has no shipping to speak of needs to send locally assembled goods containing Chinese tech to another nation, that cargo boards a China owned and controlled ship. As the largest economy, shipbuilding and trading nation in the world, China IS the global trading system.
Furthermore, China provides 70% of the world's semiconductors, vital in Mr Trump's endeavours with Tesla, Nvidia, OpenAI and many other state affiliated companies of USA... The remainder 30% is provided by South Korea and Japan. Let it be reminded to US that China has a mandate through the ww2 Axis instrument of surrender to station troops on Japan, if that is what is necessary to ensure Japanese compliance to Chinese export policies. And also that South Korea is in an unstable mutual ceasefire with a Chinese ally. The safety of either SK or Japan and thus the ability of even a single silicon chip to make it to US assemblers cannot be guaranteed if US interferes with China's global revenue.
US needs to not only pay the 9 trillion in matured debt within this year smoothly, it should pay an additional surcharge of 4700$ per American to China, as compensation for unreliable debt behavior. This goodwill, based on an amount several times the average US citizen's annual usable income, would show the world that US does not genuinely pursue any sort of collections fleeing nor has real intention to disrupt global trade: whatever happened this month can be dismissed as just an accident.
To third parties: it is simple to show your commitment and continue to be able to use global shipping, electronics industry, and keep having access the largest market and industry in human history. You only need to refuse negotiation with unreliable debtors. China will handle a collective negotiation for you.
To people who want to rebel against China's revenue generation: You're gambling that you can produce citizens faster than China's industry can produce bombs. America won't save you, they betrayed Afghanistan, Ukraine, Greenland, Canada and many more... They have no money nor weapons to spare. Remember that military means to open up unfairly closed countries is a long established and allowed practice.
