China can retaliate by having a law like any US or European company or its subsidiary selling arms or take part in military project with Taiwan will be banned for doing business with China. To take it even to harder line any US or European company having trade relation with Taiwan in specific sectors like for example telecom, oil & gas, power grid, shipping, air travel, high tech etc will be banned in doing business with China.

I think its already happening .... but perhaps word "ban" is not used by Chinese govt ... more elegant wording ;)

The fourth economy dialog between China and Japan was held after 8 years of suspension. I think it is good for both. A chance to push for the China-SK-Japan FTA.

It reminds me of the scene of "Russia China getting closer". Obama tried to squeeze the two, only to push the two closer and tougher. The very reason of the suspension of China-SK-Japan FTA negotiation was TPP (excluding China) by Obama. Now Trump left the TPP11 on the altar, threatening to slept tariff on China and not exempting Japan on tariff is the right trigger for a scene of "Japan China getting closer". The reincarnation of TPP12 (CPTPP11) has "suspended" most of US demand which is pretty good for China to "get in" especially when more than half of the 11 already have FTA with China. I would expect China to convince Japan to merge CPTPP11 with the RCEP that China advocates. P.S. RCEP was Japan's idea at the beginning and it excluded U.S. So we can see the true heart of Japan.

I hope there is going to be a trilateral meeting among China, SK and Japan soon and an announcement of going forward with FTA.

Many (if not all) Japanese actually don't like Americans ... culturally they are very close to China or SK ... Japanese has no choice but to be close to the US .. but it may change in the near future

I think it is a great news for China ... more incentive to stop importing hitech components from the US

and a message to any companies in the world that relying from the US components are not a good idea

Its great news for Huawei...these guys don't particularly like ZTE.

Time for China & Japan to move on from their difficult relationship, and develop trade & investments that would benefit both countries. The recent visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang to Tokyo for talks with his Japanese counterpart was encouraging. Let's hope China and Japan (though not easy because of unpleasant historical baggage) will be able to cooperate with mutually beneficial commercial ventures. It is also encouraging to note that during the dialogue in Tokyo, the Japanese Foreign Minister expressed Japan's willingness, on a selective basis, to cooperate with the Chinese "One Belt One Road". Some 20+ years ago, several Western Academics & Professional Consultants predicted that the 21st Century would an Asian Century for development & progress. This can only happen if there is Peace in the region, & understanding between the 2 Biggest World Economies - China & Japan. The other Asian Tigers of South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan & some of the ASEAN countries and Australia can also contribute to progress of the region, and including a more amiable denuclearised North Korea.

You give too much credit to Japan. Everything that has happened up through today, all the achievements in Asia that have turned the US from a confident and optimistic world leader into a paranoid scrooge fearful for its future was driven by China alone, with Japan fighting it every step of the way. In the future, China will continue its path to reclaim honor all the while dragging Asia along with it regardless of Japan's actions. The only importance of Japan's decision is to Japan itself, whether it wants to be on the wrong side of history, yet again, when China emerges victorious. Should Japan continue its course, I pity the Japanese people who are misguided down the wrong path by their government and who must suffer the consequences that their government has wrought upon them, as they have in the past.

For the record, despite being from Nanjing, I am a very forgiving person and if Japan chooses to wake up and finally act like an Asian nation that wants Asia to rise to the top of the world, I would welcome them without reserve or lingering resentment for the past (and I mean the past up to 2018, not 1945).

I think you have mistakenly commented that I am giving too much credit to Japan. No! My belief is that the countries in the region should cooperate for mutual benefits, & this is possible if there is Peace among countries in the region. China's Foreign Minister Mr Wang has shown he is diplomatic and pragmatic by going to Tokyo, Japan recently to discuss initially, issues related to trade and investments between the 2 countries. China being the 2nd largest world economy is obviously taking the lead in trade and investments, as it is now doing with its "Belt & Road" initiatives. Arrogance by any country will get nowhere, & China's President Xi shows a good example by supporting global free trade. Unlike President Trump who is making US protectionist/inward looking, and initiating trade wars with China and some other countries. There is a Chinese idiom/proverb "Pride goes before a fall; a haughty army will definitely lose in battle" (as happened during WW II whether Nazi Germany and former Imperial Japan. It also goes for any other Country today, for that matter).

Japan needs to change or get rid of their current selfish rulers and oligarchs first before they can be independent from America self interest groups.
