The biggest impact move China can make now to spite trump is have all education sector, university, college, Highschool, middle school, state enterprise, government branch stop using Intel/Windows.

Replace with domestic CPU like loongson, Zhaoxin x86, or domestic made AMD and Linux.

This huge volume.
This will affect future generation.

It is catch 22.
It is inferior, because no one use it, because of that there is sale of it, and because of that there is no money flow to make it works.
By forcing everyone to use domestic product AND making competition between domestic manufacturers the capability can be improved fast, and within short notice China can make good products.
That was the secret sauce of the USA in the 19th century.

And anyway, all Intel / AMD product since the beginning of 10s contain back doors, so for government / sensitive application there is no alternative of the domestic CPU.

Like the Elbrus CPU in Russia. , for the military / government applications.

No it actually lower competitiveness ..also company export products with Intel inside will get hit . Its similar to ZTE situation . if ZTE use domestic chip when superior products available no one gonna buy it .

Actually Intel is now behind AMD when it come to serves processor
They latest AMD chip Epyc is way ahead of intel processor

Intel is way behind whne it come to technology either TSMCis way ahead in 7 nanometer technology and Intel encounter problem and has to repeatedly delay 10 Nm technology

China do have clone of Epyc server. The problem with China is manufacturing theydepend on TSMC for making those chip

At first the replenishment product will be noncompetitive.

And who care about export?
Since when the Chinese so worried about the wellbeing of the foreigners?

It is quite much like the Elbrus, since the Russian government forbid the usage of Intel/AMD in key networks the manufacturing company fly and getting enough money to actually develop the Elbrus architecture.

So, if US willing to sell Nimitz class carrier, China should stop carrier development all together and just buy it?

How about self sufficiency?
Better means Nothing if it's not yours

More people use it? Well if government force issue and made young kids use something else at young age and after awhile, when the kids grew up , they will adapt to it.

Just like kids grew up at US love hamburger and fries instead of their parents ethnic cuisine food.

All matter of getting used to it.

Offer two type of products.
One based on domestic chips and Chinese government will purchase those for domestic use.

Easy, make two type of products.
The one sell to EU will use Western chips.
The one used in China will use domestic chips for national security reason, don't care how good other chips are.

Anyway, what you said is exactly what Trump would said to discourage China from switching to domestic chips!!!!!

China kills Qualcomm's $44 billion deal for NXP

) confirmed it was terminating its proposed takeover of Dutch counterpart NXP (

) on Thursday after China failed to grant it regulatory approval.

Qualcomm said it would proceed with a stock buyback of up to $30 billion that it had promised shareholders should the NXP deal fall apart. NXP also announced Thursday that it would buy back shares worth $5 billion.

The companies had been waiting nearly two years for their deal to clear global regulatory hurdles. The takeover had been approved in eight other jurisdictions, including the European Union and South Korea, since it was announced in October 2016. China was the lone holdout.

The final deadline was midday Thursday in China, and Beijing's Ministry of Commerce simply let the clock run out.

At a weekly press conference later in the day, Commerce Ministry spokesman Gao Feng duckedquestions about the deal, advising reporters to check with market regulators for details on China's decision.

"This case is about the enforcement of antitrust laws. It has nothing to do with China-US trade," Feng said, according to Chinese state media.

China's State Administration for Market Regulation did not respond to a faxed request for comment.

Qualcomm had already warned investors that the deal would likely fall through. CEO Steve Mollenkopf said during an earnings call Wednesday that the company would not extend the deadline.

Continued uncertainty surrounding such a large deal "introduces heightened risk," Mollenkopf said. "We weigh that risk against the likelihood of a change in the current geopolitical environment, which we didn't believe was a high probability outcome in the near future."

The San Diego-based company, which employs more than 33,000 people, is now stuck with paying NXP a $2 billion breakup fee. Qualcomm will make the payment on Thursday, according to NXP.

Collateral damage
This is just the latest blow for Qualcomm, which has found its business dealings tied to broader trade negotiations between the United States and China. The tech industry has become a key battleground in the trade fight between the world's two largest economies.

President Donald Trump blocked a $117 billion

The following month, the Trump administration

, preventing it from buying crucial parts from American companies.

The ban was a one-two punch for Qualcomm: As a major supplier of chips for ZTE's (

)smartphones, Qualcomm lost business during the three-month ban; then its planned merger with NXP became linked to ZTE's fate.

After the US government

, there was hope that Beijing would approve the Qualcomm-NXP deal.

But then the trade fight escalated.

The United States imposed tariffs on Chinese goods worth $34 billion last month, citing alleged Chinese theft of US intellectual property as justification. China responded in kind. President Trump then threatened to target an additional $200 billion worth of Chinese products.

Chinese chips
China is also keen to develop a competitive chip industry and decrease its reliance on foreign chip suppliers.

The Qualcomm-NXP deal would have helped the United States expand its influence in the global chip industry and "bring negative impacts on a wide range of industries in China," said JH Lin, an analyst with research firm Trend Force.

Qualcomm would have also strengthened its technological know how, which "would be a huge challenge or even risk for Chinese chipmakers and the domestic semiconductor industry of China," Lin added.

28nm and ultimately 14 nm can be the last stop, is sufficient enough for CPU. They are not the best but good enough.
