SINGAPORE (April 4, 2017) The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), right, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) are moored pierside in Singapore. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of U.S. 3rd Fleet. Five DDGs and a CG with that carrier. That's a nice group.

Usually now in peace time, the US Navy operates one CG and two DDGs, along with an SSN with the carrier.

I expect as the LCS vessels get uparmed to erform escort duties, we will see two of them with the carriers too.

ne can hope.

A Tico, two Burkes, and two LCS would make a nice peace time surface escort for a nuclear carrier.
