The sinking of South Korean Corvette Cheonan

When push comes to shove Kim Jon Il might get his excuse for war. I muse emphasize that right now neither the United States nor South Korea has DEFINITIVE PROOF that the North Koreans were involved in the sinking and the North Koreans have DENIED INVOLVEMENT IN THE SINKING. For all we know people in North Korea might think that Cheonan was sunk by American subs as a part of a greater conspiracy to restart the Korean War.

How much do you want to push them to have a full scale war?

I'm not a warmonger, and I don't believe there's any chance for a full scale war, regardless what's going to hapan next. but I think it's time to give kim jong-il a decent dress-down, such as make serious attempt on his life, like Reagan did on Khadaffi, some thugs are cowards, once they realise that their own lives are in danger, they'll start to behave.

north korea doesn't have the capacity to start a war, south korea doesn't want to change the state quo, things will soon back to normal.

So, we have to look the another way around.

Did all the South Korea ex-presidents die in peace?

If all the ex-presidents were not die in peace, what would happen to Kim?

The "Sun Shine" policy was working well. South Korea President Lee has followed Bush's hard head thinking. So what, Kim has nothing to loose!

I think you have underestimate Kim. He came from a line of hardliner, he is crazy in a certain way... but he is not stupid... in fact he is quite a genius, playing among the great powers - China, US, Russia and Japan.

He know how to keep himself alive, that is for sure, or he would already have died multiple times. Plus I do not believe any military action is feasible on NK unless, you want to simply anniliate the entire nation fast, or you will be fighting guerilla warfare for a long period of time which would mean massive casualty.

So I think we can quit all these war mongering talks, punishing kim's talks and stuff like that, because it is something that will not happen.

And finally... it is all spectaculation that NK had hit SK's ship and sink it. No solid evidence pointed to NK... even if debris of a torpedo was found, it would be up expert to link it to NK and unless that link is found and establish, no one can say for sure it is NK who is the culprit.

I'm not so sure South Korea has to prove the North Koreans did it beyond a reasonable doubt to the world community as if this whole incident can be explained beyond a reasonable doubt like some episode of LA LAW.

This forum is made up of folks who are primarily interested in weapon systems. So endless prattle about, "oh we don't know what really happened." isn't going to pass the mustard here. Who the heck else wants to sink South Korean ships?

Save all the diplomatic speak for the political forums. The talk here should focus on what weapon system did it, and who has the capability.

So far a North Korean semi-submersible outfitted with a couple torpedoes looks like the culprit. These are the heavy torpedoes the North has. Yu-3G, ET-80A, TYPE 53-59, and the TYPE 53-56. They are all, naturally, either former Soviet or Chinese in origin.

The Yu-3G seems like the candidate since it is an acoustic tracking torpedo. It can be outfitted with a fuse triggered by a magnetic field. A ship's engine room produces the strongest magnetic field and that is where the torpedo apparently proximity detonated.

.

not likely. internet forums are full of armchair generals that are prone to jumping to conclusions without first hand facts being disclosed. i predict in the next few pages people will start planning shock and awe military strikes and regime change.:p

You are wrong. This is an forum make up of people who are interested in military issues and not just weapon systems, please do not degrade the integrity of this forum to some half-fxxk semi witted forum. If this thread is about some weapon system, it would be title, what might cause such damages to the SK ship (or to that effect).

I am in this forum long enough to know that the members here are something deeper than just weapon system.

And we are not interested in politics. I am just saying that it is an irresponsible action to go shooting your mouth off something that might not even have happen (in this case NK sinking SK's ship).

If you want a scenario where you could show off your knowledge in military weaponry, just create one like, "What would SK use against NK if it is proven that NK is the culprit in sinking SK ship?"

It is always in this type of forum, when someone simply jump to conclusion in something that is still under investigation that actually started a flamewar.
