Terrorism against Chinese targets

Furthermore, once the perpetrators are uncovered, their families and their employer's families should be slaughtered as well.
Counterprime, SD does not condone or allow encouragement for acts of senseless violence against innocents.

Go after the terrorists and bring them to abject justice...but do not post here about killing all of their relatives too.

That is not justice...it is senseless revenge.

That portion fo your post has been deleted.

Any more of that will lead to a suspension.

This thread is about Terror Attacks against China and her interests.

It is not:

An anti-US Thread
A Conspiracy Theory Thread
A Thread to advocate revenge killings
An ideological/political/nationalistic Thread

Many such posts have been deleted.

Let's focus on actual terror attacks, the official responses to them, and military/defense issues associated with that.

All of this other lessens the actual attacks against China and does not reflect well on SD.

Any more of that and the Thread will be closed and members taking part in it will be suspended from SD.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MODERATION.

SCMP News said:
China’s President Xi Jingping has condemned the killing of a Chinese hostage by Islamic State extremists as Beijing confirmed for the time on Thursday the identity of the mainland captive as Fan Jinghui.

The Islamic State group said on Wednesday that it had killed Fan and Norwegian captive Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad after earlier demanding ransoms for the two men.

“Terrorism is a universal enemy of mankind,” Xi said on Thursday morning.

“China condemns all types of terrorism and will fight against any violent terrorism attacks that challenge human civilisation.”

Xi also said he had sent his condolences to Fan’s family in a statement issued in Manila, where he is attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

Earlier on Thursday China’s ministry of foreign affairs had confirmed the identity of the Chinese hostage as Fan, who was put “up for sale”, along with Grimsgaard-Ofstad, by the extremist group in early September.

The Chinese ministry’s spokesman Hong Lei said the government had tried to save Fan after he was kidnapped by the extremists, but “the terrorism group ignored human conscience and morals”.

Hong said: “The Chinese government will do all it can to bring the killers to justice.

“We will continue working with the international community on counterterrorism in pursuit of maintaining world peace.”

The extremist group published two images of the men in the second-to-last page of its English-language magazine, saying they had been “executed after being abandoned by kafir nations and organisations”. “Kafir” is the Arabic word for infidel.

In the images, the men both appeared to have both been shot to death.

Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg told a news conference in Oslo that Grimsgaard-Ofstad, had most likely been killed.

“We condemn the killing,” Solberg said.

The deaths of the two men come days after 129 people were killed in Paris in the worst ever militant attacks on French soil, and as Moscow launched fresh air raids against IS in Syria after confirming a “terrorist attack” brought down a Russian passenger jet in Egypt last month.

Why didn't they pay the ransom? This is incomprehensible.

Because to do so would be to effectively fund terrorism?

I think China draws a clear line between kidnappers and real terrorists.

It might be willing to pay kidnappers who take hostages for purely economic reasons, but not terrorists. Especially not ISIS, who are busy fighting with and training Chinese terrorists who want to ultimately return to attack Chinese targets one day.

Even with kidnappers, I think China would have a policy in place where it makes it crystal clear that it will not be making a habit of paying ransoms. The Chinese negotiators would likely insist any payment is as much for the release of the hostage in question as it is to ensure the group takes no more Chinese hostages. And that if the group takes more Chinese hostages in the future, not only would China not pay, it will probably consider taking military action to free the hostage and punish the kidnappers.

No nation or people can afford to make themselves be seen as a big free money bag that anyone could tap by taking their citizens hostages.

But is withholding payment worth the life of a Chinese citizen, considering that ISIS has plenty of avenues of cash flow to turn to?

Kidnapped Chinese citizens are not a frequent occurrence, so I fail to see how this would provide any notable cash flow to ISIS at all; Beijing must care for its people.

I agree that Beijing should do all it can to free a kidnapped hostage but it's a tough call. sometimes if they pay them off, then it's just an encouragement to kidnap more Chinese nationals. there is so many Chinese nationals abroad these days they can't let ISIS have a perception that kidnapping them is equal to easy cash. Is this the right decision? I don't know but It's a hard call nonetheless and unfortunately Chinese are a target now.
