Targeting big cities or economic centre of China by Taiwan Military would not halt the invasion if it happend. On the other hand, it would harden the resolve of the Chinese population against Taiwan. In addition, this would also give justification for the PLA to target Taiwan population centres. After all, PLA has a lot more ordance to lobb at Taiwan than vice versa. Attacking big cities would put US and Japan in an awkuard situation as well since there is no justification.

Personally, I don't think these cruise missiles are going to be targeted at cities. Military installation on the other hand could suffer some damage.

If they want some taste of nuke, then go ahead.

It's always the active optino in thinking anyway.

Correct. What happened was just designed to counter the announcement of China's spending increase. There has never been a real intention to attack Chinese cities, because Taiwan doesn't/wouldn't have anything like the number of missiles to make an effect in China.

The HF-IIE will be reserved for attacks on key installations and staging areas. It will be a "deterent" of sorts, but not in that they could be used against civilians - more than China shouldn't be tempted to find an excuse to attack, because Taiwan would make China pay dearly in men and equipment.

This is not the news. They have been bluffing it for the past 10 years, and conducted numerous "tests".

In the latest "test" they sent a missile to circle an island for some time and claimed it's the "successful test".

Agreed on conventional weapons. But if the weapons were nuclear...and many believe that the ROC either already has, or could quickly produce nuclear weapons...then the equation changes.

I do not believe the People of China will annhiliation of scores of millions and major economic centers and cities over an offensive invasion of Taiwan by the PRC. For people who are defending their way of life, their freedom, and what they deem as their soveriegnty against an agressor who would offensively cross the stratis to destroy all of those things...they would probably defend themselves accordingly and feel that they did not have much to lose.

A back channel message to this effect has either already been commuinicated, or would be communicated if the ROC was in fact capable of producing such weapons and arming their missiles with them.

...but that is just my opinion.

Go nuke of Taiwan is the pre-condition of war listed by China.

We simply will dump thermal bombs on the whole island, flat it regardless of anything.

I don't believe the HF-IIE is a bluff. It may be a bluff in as far that it would be used against civilian targets, but not that it could be used against military targets.

Which would be an excellent way to precipitate a global, nuclear war. Don't believe that China could nuke anyone with impunity - if any country did that, anything could happen.

Only China and US know it's a bluff or not. All important components are from US anyway.

Nuclear war is the active option for China definitely, which is hinted by Chinese military and discussed many times already.
