strategic value of having a fleet of tank/troop transport subs.

071 LPD is pretty useless in the taiwan strait situation.

Having a fleet of tank and troop transport submersible ship or subs would change that equation.

That means Taiwan has to worry on daily and nightly basis whether an imminent landing is happening.
Can you imagine that?

That would have a great deal of pressure and therefore such fleet would have a very significant strategic value.

I have little doubt that it is not only strung along the Strait but along the entire length of the First Island Chain. SOSUS lines could be strung inside the territorial waters of Taiwan and still hear Chinese subs on the other side.

I have came across article mentioning SOSUS laid near the entrance of SCS and Pacific by US to detect submarines coming into the Pacific.

Taiwan often bragged about how far their radar can detect inland into China and know when the fighter planes taking off . This is throughout the many years.

But I have never ever heard Taiwan mentioning they have SOSUS ability to track PLAN subs across the strait. If they had it, they would brag about it throughout the years. Taiwan simply doesn't have this kind of tech themselves. They are desperate to build new subs to counter PLAN subs and that everybody know

So, I am not sure where's your little doubt comes from

Also, SOSUS is early warning, what's the use of putting SOSUS surrounding the island. There's no time for reaction.

The Problem is not the Detection It's the building. I mean in concept it's sound but practicality??? In Concept we could be parked in orbit of Alpha Centari in 2.5 weeks.
The First Issue Is the size issue, Modern Subs are big but this would need to be HUGE! TITANIC bigger than Typhoon! so you are already looking at a pressure hull bigger then big. even if you limited the load out to an Amphibious assault sub it's still dwarfing Any sub ever built.

Nah, SOSUS is not a generic name, but a specific name referring to a specific American underwater detection system. What I'm claiming is that the US has specifically SOSUS strung all along the Western Pacific using the shores of friendly countries as receiving stations, including along the Strait on the Taiwanese side. Taiwan wouldn't brag about something the US doesn't want them to talk about.

I find that unlikely US strung SOSUS along the eastern side of Taiwan facing the strait.
The strait is only 100 miles(so taiwan only has 50 mile on its side) and the strait is a major waterway for alot commercial ship with alot of noises in the water.

Even if it strung close along its taiwan coast, It won't be effective as an early warning . Too many false triggering along the heavy commercial waterway and the distance is too short, not enough for reaction time. US won't wasting time in setup things up in such environment.

SOSUS is effective in wide open ocean for detection. Setting up SOSUS in a clogged and noisy environment is a waste of time and money.

Yes, I'm sure noise is why the US deployed SOSUS to chokepoints like the GIUK gap, and why China has strung its own SOSUS-type lines across the Bohai Strait.

how wide is the GIUK gap? Is it as narrow as the Taiwan Strait (less 50 miles since it has to share with China side)? Bohai Strait is not an international shipping lane.

Let's say your SOSUS is 1 mile away from Taiwan island. Is that good enough estimate?
