Yesterday TNI-AL has shown their Chief conducting a visit to the Japanese Oyashi-class Submarinesand Mogami-class Frigate. Japan keeps offering the Mogami to Indonesia, even though the Turkish Istiff-class still has better chances. However the Oyashio-class submarine has rumours say that Japan is open to let some of their Oyashio submarines be interim submarines that the TNI-AL is now looking for. Japan is open on that potential as their Taigei-class is to begin to enter JMSDF fleet.
The lead candidate for the interim submarines is speculated to be the surplus PLAN S-26. If Japan offer the Oyashio, this is something that can be very considered, especially if the offer includes modifications on the system like newer Soryu-class standards.
In addition, PR. PAL has already prepared the working prototype for their UUV project.PT. PAL plans to develop a smaller UUV (KSOT in their term) for Surveillance and Kamikaze purposes and larger one to be used for attack and to be equipped with torpedoes.
Furthermore, Keris FB got some more photos from various enthusiasts passing through PT. PAL facility from harbour side. If the target to flood out the Firgat Merah Putih is like a similar state as HMS Venturer, then perhaps the target for end October or early November is possible to reach.
From what I gather, the aim is still by end of this month. PT. PAL need to clear out the dock in Semarang as they’re soon to begin the assembly of LPD's modules that they’ve already finished and prepared for a while. Maybe they’re going to assembly both Philippines LPD #1 and then the UAE LPD. After that they move to FMP #2 and follow by Philippines LPD #2.
To be fair, there seems that there are other private yards in Batam or Lampung area that have better scheduling arrangements. So far PT. PAL has not delay much, but I still think it’s very hard for them to be within times. For that I still believe that they are taking too much orders relative to their own capacity. Government should consolidate all state owned shipyards under one company. If it’s going to be under PAL, then let it be. There are state owned shipyard that have large orders and work schedules like PT. PAL, and others which are underused due to their financing, but still have some huge potential.
