Sikorsky, PTDI Sign Agreement For Indonesian Black Hawks

WASHINGTON, D.C.
, Aug. 23, 2023 – Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT), announced today the signing of an agreement with Indonesian aerospace firm PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) to enter into a strategic partnership to pursue a sales agreement of up to 24 Sikorsky S-70M Black Hawk® helicopters for the Republic of Indonesia.

"This agreement demonstrates our mutual interest with PTDI to provide S-70M Black Hawk helicopters to serve Indonesia’s security needs," said Jeff White, vice president of Global Business Development at Sikorsky. “The Black Hawk is designed and built to the toughest military standards, and it can quickly and reliably deliver personnel and supplies to geographically-dispersed populations across a large archipelagic area such as Indonesia.”

The agreement was finalized during Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the U.S. to meet with defense and industry officials in support of Indonesia’s military modernization and interoperability efforts.

“We are confident that this strategic cooperation between PTDI and Lockheed Martin will result in added values gained for PTDI's capability in integration, customization, modification and system upgrade for the helicopter's completion,” said Gita Amperiawan, President Director at PTDI. “In addition, with the opportunity to become an official Sikorsky supplier, PTDI will also be able to expand its aerostructure business.”

Built at Lockheed Martin’s PZL Mielec facility in Poland, the highly sought after S-70M Black Hawk has earned its standing as the trusted utility aircraft for operators worldwide, featuring unmatched multi-mission versatility and military-grade airworthiness capable of operating in extreme weather conditions, day or night.

The President of Indonesia opened the military parade on a BMP-3. A military parade was held in Indonesia on October 5 to celebrate the anniversary of the Indonesian Armed Forces. The military parade was accepted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo standing on a Russian-made BMP-3F. Indonesian President Joko Widodo said the military parade demonstrates Indonesia's readiness to face global challenges. Previously, Indonesia acquired Russian armored vehicles three times: in September 2007, 17 BMP-3, in May 2012, 37 BMP-3, and in April 2019, 40 BMP-3. The BMP-2 can also be seen at the parade. The date October 5 was chosen in Indonesia to celebrate the National Armed Forces Day, created in 1945.

New details on the export of MİLGEM warships to Malaysia

Within the scope of the LMS Batch II Program, Malaysia is preparing to procure 3 MİLGEM ADA Class Corvettes from Turkey in the first stage and 5 MİLGEM ADA Class Corvettes in the final stage. The contract could reportedly be signed in the first half of this year.

Under the Coastal Task Ship (LMS) Batch II Procurement Program, Malaysia will procure 3 corvettes in the first stage. At a time when Malaysia is evaluating MİLGEM ADA Class Corvettes for the LMS Batch II Program, STM signed a goodwill agreement with the Technology Depository Agency Berhad (Malaysia-TDA) in May 2023, including technology transfer in the field of military maritime.

According to Defense Security Asia; STM is expected to be selected as the 'prime contractor' in the Royal Malaysian Navy's LMS Batch II Program. The project, in which 3 Coastal Duty Ships will be procured with a budget of more than 400 million dollars in the first stage, is carried out through a 'State-to-Government (G2G) Agreement'.

The signing of the contract for the construction of 3 LMS Batch II vessels and the 13th anniversary of the contract. A decision is expected to be made to build 5 more ships during the Malaysian Plan (2026-2030). Thus, by 2030, the Malaysian Navy will have 8 Coastal Duty Ships based on the MİLGEM ADA Class Corvette design.
