Yesterday, the sopkesman of Chinese National defence industry, Huangqiang said the Chinese National defence industry has earned unprecedent 20 billion yuan in 2006 (in the worth of 2.5 billion US dollars), increased by 50% than 2005,he also indicated that some new and powerful weapons will be showed in the future in order to keep a peaceful world and stimulate the social stability. When it comes to aircraft carrier, he said China now has enough ability to build it, the question is just the time.

Eventually even the big guys in Beijing have got it!

Hefty profits can be made in the defence industry and the money will create new jobs for highly qualified scientists and engineers. Additionally the PLA will get weapons now worth calling them so since they will indeed be able to do their job. Late but not too late CPC leadership has recognized that global interests have to be accompanied by global means of furthering them effectively. Without the necessary strategic power needed by country like China (after all already the number one industrial power on the planet!) global interests will inevitably turn into global liabilities if threatened by a powerful adversary. This kind of capabilties can only be developed and produced by a state of the art defence industry able to compete on the highest level worldwide.

Chinese defence companies are owned directly or indirectly via state banks and state holdings by the central state and his agencies. Correspondingly the money is virtually ´recycled´ and the spendings are partially compensated by this process. Reforming China´s military-industrial complex seems to have been quite successful after years of limited progress in the 90´s, but unrelenting efforts must be directed at further existing shortcomings and problems in this pivotal sector of China´s economy!

P.S. Some suggestions about the topic Happy Hippo? Best regards Violet Oboe!

To speak objectively,as you said, without the "help" from the state banks and finacial assistance provided by the central government, it's may impossible for the Chinese defence companies to attain the goal of reaching a new high in profits. It's may casued by the defects in the process of reforming the Chinese military-industry,although the remarkble progress was made in reforming in the past few years, there still leaves to much to be desired, for the economic sector in China has been plauged by many problems and latent risks. In my view, the Chinese defence companies should also learn to be dependent, just like other private-runned companies, responsible for their own operation decisions and for their profits and losses.
Hi,Violet Oboe, thank you for your comment,my suggestion is opened to any honest objections.Best regards to you:D

Hehe, that cracked me up. What are these weapons - a "peace ray" that stops people fighting? ;)

When it comes to aircraft carrier, he said China now has enough ability to build it, the question is just the time.

I find that statement a bit dubious, though it is interesting. I think it's a means of justifying China's aircraft carrier project. When it gets one ready (either through conversion or direct construction), China will say, "Ah, but we didn't build one for ages when we could have done. So we're a good country." Of course we know they're still working on fiddling around with Varyag.

try tell that to george bush, who seem to think more weapons are needed... :D

say the weapon cost 100million to make, say the company made 40million profit. say the bank own 50%, so 20million, and say the bank use half that money to pay interest of it's account holder... they reclaim.... 10million....

hmm impressive, a 10% discount... but still far from making a dent compared to the high returns of building houses and shopping mall :p

economy is so different when your GDP is climbing like a balloon!
