Singapore bought these because Malaysia bought 48 PT-91M's:

It's a silly "mine is bigger than yours" thing. Realistically, the chance of SG and Malaysian MBT's going head to head is near 0%. What are they gonna do, park them on opposite ends of the Jonhor-Singapore Causeway or 2nd Link and yell at each other? Will Singapore tanks be required to fill up its gas tanks to 75% full before driving into JB in fear of cheaper Malaysian petro prices (and dodging SG sales tax)? Will the tank crewmen be inspected for extra packs of cigs on their way back? Sheesh.

Negative, I doubt SG bought this tanks to start a piss fight against Malaysia. Bcos Singapore already operate 60++ Centurion MBT upgraded by Israeli back in the early or mid 80s, earlier than the purchasing of the Polish tanks by Malaysia. SG purchases military hardwares based on doctrines, not like 'countering wad others bought'. For example, when Malaysia bought MLRS, SG did not follow the suit and purchase MLRS. Bcos having one in SG is not veri wise.

Well, its still great news for our tiny city state to have top of the line MBTs such as the Leo2A4! :D

I still believe that Singapore should invest more in perhaps Apache or smaller attack helicopters, light tanks and much much more SPIKE missiles, instead of the large Leopard 2A4. it is no doubt that these tanks are state of the art machinery but see what the Lebanonese do to the Israel's state of the art MBT.

Small wheeled tanks move faster and it suit the terrain of better, might only carry smaller cannon but coupled with powerful atgm like the SPIKE, they will still pack quite a punch.

Out in the open, Apache will kick any MBT to hell. Coupled with missile troopers armed with portable SPIKE missiles, Singapore can really do some damage. Thus I really don't see the need of the Leo.

66 + 30 tanks, ordered by Singapure which is an Island of 682,7 (sq.km)(Area) - this means arround 20 km x 30 km .....

seems overdraved to me ....

(or did they work in intermedial wholesale trade  ?)

I could answer that for you, although I oppose to the need of spending money buying these MBT. Singapore's military follows an offensive doctrine. We will not fight a war in our own land.

This is also a reason why I oppose to these MBT. We are an island country. Thus we need powerful punches in terms of attack helicopters, bombers and fighters rather than tanks.

OK, back to topic
Singapore have Centurions?
Well, I suggest that Singapore retire their other tanks first then.

I don't think Singapore will have a forest problem with the Leopard, though I think they should drop the long barrel (If there) The tank is massive and I don't think running over weeds and knocking down trees will be a problem. Manuvering the turret might be one, however.
But does Malaysia have big/sturdy enough bridges? That's what I think will hamper progress. Maybe they can take 55 tonnes, but you can't safely send 1 tank over the bridge at a time.

Not sure if Apaches(or any AH) would do well here. Tanks would be easy kill, but the individual soldiers have forest cover/camo(relative to AH) which you/your optics (Like in the pot fields of A-stan) can't spot and they would be a nightmare.

I'm not sure about the weight restrictions, but Malaysia's infrastructure is actually pretty good for its region. Although I'd also point out that I've only been to JB and KL and not the other parts.

KL International Airport & KLIA Ekspres puts LAX to shame. Thank goodness they were competing against Singapore and had something good to compete against... so the rivary did produce some good stuff. Now if only they'd consolidate all the damn light rail systems in KL into one. =p

I'm picturing an invasion scenario in my head where enemy tanks are rolling down Orchid St with Singapore army shooting ATGM's at them from Phoenix Hotel's roof. Um, no, ain't gonna happen, at least not any time soon. First, who's going to invade SG? Second, if there was some regional tension and stand-off, I expect the USN to immediatey park a few warships off SG.

SG follows a doctrine where these tanks will unlikely be used in SG itself. Malaysia has excellent highways from near the border with SG up to almost Thailand .... very good for these Leo's.
