Well, per service timeline it's quite likely the coming flanker replacement in the first place; certainly fighter flankers, for whom career is in the autumn phase.
J-20 is massively early to touch, j-10 may or may not get direct replacement at all, depending on how comfortable China is about its surroundings.

J-36 is "something else" category (though it isn't inconceivable that some bomber units may be transferred over onto it).

J-10 replacement was basically shown.

(the UADFs at the parade, specifically the bigger ones with WS-10 engines).

The talking frog released a video about the SAC fighter. I like his size estimation and if true, it would also have a 2IC combat radius:

This might be the first video I actually agree with the sock puppet.
And if his analysis is accurate, for a very large flanker size aircraft, it's IWB seems very small if they are only marginally wider than F-22 and J-20. It seems to be the same length.

But then again if they made the IWB longer to fit a PL-17 then this aircraft will be stealing J-36s role.

Point is, I had a misconception that such a large flanker size aircraft might have a wide enough IWB to fit maybe 7-8 PL-15s. Maybe I need to tamper down such expectations. It could maybe fit 8 of the new PL-16 which should be equivalent to fitting in 6 PL-15s.

Maybe convert the JH-7 pilots straight into the J-36?
In my opinion, J-16 pilots are most suitable for transitioning to J-36, and J-20 pilots are most suitable for transitioning to J-50. Referring to the precedent of J-7 equipped troops being upgraded to J-20, JH-7 troops definitely have a chance, but they will not be the first batch.

Decision to switch planes is based on air bases/ brigades rather than about which pilots are suitable. The location of these bases are carefully chosen to cover certain areas/mission sets. The choice will be based on that. Moreover, there are few brigades in China that are the most important and always get the most cutting edge planes first. So, the brigades that got J-20 first are more likely to switch to J-36/J-50 before anyone else. The J-20s they leave behind will be then given to second/3rd priority units.

JH-7 units are most likely to switch to J-16 and those J-16 units are more likely to switch to J-20S or J-36 given their mission profiles.
