Yes the Indians were supposed to invest billions into the program but they exited after investing a couple hundred million.

If you don't like that article I think there is a more authoritative source at Jane's which claims similar numbers.

Just look at the investments US allied nations made in the F-35 program just to be able to manufacture a couple of minor parts.

...the new payment brings Canada's total investment in the F-35 to US$541.3 million since 1997...

So how much did those Rafales cost?

India invested at least 5 billion in that program the disagreement was on tech transfer which was understandable if India had its hands on T50 tech Russia will lose its 4th gen fighter market in India, It's amazing how naive the Indian policymakers were

They did not. They signed an agreement, paid some money upfront, then canceled the deal. Just read the news article.

Here, another news source claiming India spent $295 million before they walked out.

So no, sorry, India didn't pay for the PAK-FA development program.
That sort of money wouldn't be enough to even build a flying prototype.
Let alone a dozen.

That money paid for the initial study for the twin-seater variant which ended up being canceled.

Just consider this. Russia has just invested into a $11 billion pipeline for natural gas into Germany.
IIRC the split is 50-50 between Gazprom and foreign investors.
The gas pipeline into China, Power of Siberia, is expected to cost $50-70 billion of which the Chinese won't pay a cent up front. They only have a deal to pay for a certain amount of gas.

It is bollocks that the Russians don't have the budget to purchase the aircraft. Russia can purchase 128x Su-35, 161x Su-30, 136x Su-34, and you are telling me they can't purchase Su-57s which costs about the same as Su-35? The US only built 195x F-22s for reference.

A. We're talking about development costs, not purchasing costs. Spending 40 mil to get a known fighter is definitely less risky than spending X on an R&D program.

B. If you think the Su57 truly costs about the same as a Su35 then I have a carrier refit to sell to you. Only $1 billion, promise!

Of course it is less risky. I have nothing against the Indians deciding to just purchase the aircraft instead of being an equal development partner and getting all the technology transferred to India. What I am against is them claiming they funded the PAK-FA project for Russia and other people claiming that Russia is so broke they can't invest in this fighter program. The Indians obviously didn't, and the Russians do have the money.

Fact is the money the Indians spent on the PAK-FA program was about the same as the price of one of their Rafales.

With regards to the Su-57 any prices we know are still tentative. Based on Russian government contracts which still haven't been delivered and which might get inflated. But I would not be surprised if in the end it did end up costing a similar amount. Just compare the sales price of an F-35A vs a latest model F-16V. Not that different.

I was speaking on why Russia might have money to buy Su35s etc. but not willing to spend much on developing Su57

It is a 3D model or some plastic model. But it is true that the Su-57 aircraft has two side bays for R-73 missiles in the wing roots.

There is a Sukhoi patent describing the mechanism.

Also the ventral bays can carry more than four missiles.
