The Yasen subs are good boats. And very apable.

But in the time they have launched two of them, the US has launched fifteen Virginia class, which are quieter and as if not more capable.

The numbers are simply dwarfing the Russians in terms of their ability to go up against them...and don't forget those three Sea Wolves either.

Not to mention the English having now launched four Astute class...which are also amazing boats..

Quietness is questionable variable. Since late Akula boats surpassed LA class in this aspect, later situation is a big unknown. For obvious reason what people with knowledge just won't talk.
Next, 885M differs significantly from Severodvinsk, and Kazans' sound signature is a one big unknown.
Last, capability... oranges with apples. Pr.885 boats are true Soviet-style SSGNs, after all.

And sea wolf followed by Virginia dropped the sound profiles even more. Some even claim that the modern Virginia class is as quiet as a SSK. Still numbers game 2 really modern Russian boats well the US has cranked out over a dozen exceptionally modern boats in two blocks. Any way.

One point of interest with the new Russian attack boats if they seem to favor a conventional screw well all the new Western model have moved to a pump jet.

No, it is not. The latest Akula class surpassed the first two fluight of LA calss, but not the last flight.

The Sea Wolkf class was a generation beyond even that, and the Virginia's are quiter still.

The deal is this...the Yasen are good boats, probably surpassing all LA class. I oubt seriously that they are as quiet as the e Wolf or the Virginia...but the botto line is that they have only been able to build two of them...the US now has 18 boats that are one and two generations beyond the later LA class...and the US is pumpin out one or two boats per year for the forseeable future.

Russia isimply cannot keep up with the production...and when you fact in US allies...it is even more daunting.

Well known 1995 stuff was about LA class altogether.
And last series of 971th project failed to be born, due to obvious events. So did advanced 945B, which was meant to reach next generation queting.
Yasen class is same generation as Virginia class(lead boat of pr.885m Kazan was laid in late 2000s).

Russia, frankly speaking, doesn't even try to match US numbers in SSN, it's impossible. Even less so with very large, advanced and expensive pr.885s.

US has allies, as they have global commitments, and other powers to deal with.

+it's US hobby to go all nuclear. There are lots of tasks to be filled with conventional, smaller and cheaper boats.

Jeff have right also difficult to know and whan Akula was put in service there are much rumors but
Akula I/II have same noise as LA Flight I/II and Akula III only one than LA 688i Ohio also 110 and 105 Dbs very good but the last 2 US SSNs classes are excellent to 95, Severodvinsk about 100 - 105.
Sierra to 115 - 120 as Oscar II but with her enormous size much more detectable with MAD !

The first Soviet enough silenciouswas the Victor III to 125 - 130 DBs for comparison a Sturgeon 120 -125
Checking on severals sites and i get reliables estimations except for some in general to 5 DBs
