"Admirals Triple" is going to be sold to India, to kinda solve the problem of their propulsion...
Only a couple of months ago (mid-July) the report from sources like Jane's was that India was negotiating to license build three Project 11356M vessels (Admiral Grigorovich Frigates) of their own.

Did that change to them buying the second batch of three Russian vessels then?

I have a hard time finding anything rock-solid credible regarding military sales coming out of Russia these days.

India already has six Talwar class FFGs that were built in Russia for them...and the Grigorovich frigates are the Russian version of the same. Si it make sense that India would want more...but I thought India was pretty emphatic about building them themselves.

Of course...if the price is right?

On the other hand, I would think India would be leery about pricing with Russia after the Virkamaditya price hikes.

I asked over on the Indian News Thread and aska indicates that India may buy one of the Russian Grigorovich FFGs...but still wants to license build three of their own.

Time will tell...it's really a convoluted thing.

Russia got the Crimea and they have put a huge stumbling block on Ukraine...but it is costing them in the development of some of their naval assets.

i can confirm that India will get the the Krivaks , but how will they aquire it and how many they will buy is what no one knows outside of the IN and the MOD

The Godavari class is long in the tooth. Three new Krivak class figates will be the replacements for these.

and that accounts for three.
and,,, we heard about a fourth one too from indian sources.

the private shipyards would have built the shivalik class frigates, but MDL doesn't like new competition and refused to share the designs to the private shipyards.
after all the project was given to the private shipyards with the intent of giving experience to the Private yards and in turn competition to the Public Sector Units.
with the belief that competition increases performance

MDL refused to license the the Shivalik class frigates to L&T or Pipapev.

here entered the Russians.
