Mobile land-based ASM complexes such as Bastion (with Yakhont) are virtually impossible to locate (especially inside the serious AD environment), especially inside the forests and complex terrain. This video demonstrates perfectly how terrain is used. The complex is highly mobile with a very short time of deployment into firing position--less than 5 minutes.

Russian Navy to get large landing ship Pyotr Morgunov in 2018
The Russian Navy will receive by 2020 the first new-generation landing ship that will be many times heavier than the Ivan Gren class vessels and will be able to carry several helicopters, Tryapichnikov told reporters earlier on Thursday.

"The construction of new-generation large landing ships will be launched within the next five years, and these ships will many times surpass in displacement the Ivan Gren and Pyotr Morgunov large landing ships, have higher landing force compatibility and will be able to carry not one, but several helicopters," Tryapichnikov said.

According to him, the first ship of this class is to be built by 2020. "It will be a new project for the ‘large landing ship’ class," he said.
This statement is difficult to undewrstand.

I am sure something must be launched in the translation.

It is now 2015. 2020 is five years away.

On one hand they say the Russian Navy will receive their first new large ship in 2020. To me, to say the Russian Navy will receive the vessel means something very specific. It means to me that it better start building this year to be built, launched, outfitted, go through builders trials and be delivered to the Russian Navy by 2020.

But then the actual quote they use says that construction of new-generation large landing ships will be launched within the next five years. This implies to me that the construction itself will not start soon, and may not start until 2020.

So which is it?

I guess we will just have to watch and see, eh?

The Google translator works well on most languages that use Latin characters, however with Cyrillic and Asian characters, it’s open to interpretation. That and a little of the Russian propaganda hehehe

The Yasen is an extremely impressive boat. Very well armed, very good propulsion, and very capable.

With the Severodvinsk in service, they are learning a lot with it.

When is the second, the Kazen supposed to be launched?

Of course, the big problem Russia has with such big ticket items like this is that they are building them at glacial speeds...very slowly. I am sure the Russian Navy would like to have 6-8 of these boats right now. But they are going to have to wait probably another ten years to get to having eight of them in service.

By the time they have eight such vessels, the US Navy will have commissioned another 16 Virginias and will have a total of 28 of those equally impressive boats.

Brand New Russian, Chinese Hypersonic Weapons Unnerve US

High-ranking US military officials acknowledged that highly maneuverable, ultra-fast and elusive hypersonic arms Russia and China are developing pose a strategic threat to the United States, who lacks hypersonics at the moment, national security expert

said.

"Nuclear and non-nuclear nations are prepared to employ cyber, counter-space, and asymmetric capabilities as options for achieving their objectives during crisis and conflict, and new technologies such as hypersonic glide vehicles are being developed, complicating our sensing and defensive approaches," Gertz quoted Admiral Cecil D. Haney, commander of the US Strategic Command (Stratcom), as saying.

Long-range precision strike weapons capable of accelerating beyond the speed of Mach 5 are considered to be hypersonic. What makes them so deadly is the unpredictability of their trajectory. They are virtually impossible to intercept by conventional missile defense systems.

Since hypersonic weapons have not entered service in any country on the planet yet, they remain "something that concerns us and may be an area of discussion in the future,"

. Gen. James Kowalski said.

In June, military experts said that Russia was test-launching a new hypersonic attack aircraft (Yu-71) that could carry nuclear warheads and penetrate missile defense systems. The country is reportedly developing several hypersonic weapons systems, including air- and sea-launched missiles.

According to some sources, PAK DA, Russia's brand new fifth generation long-range bombers currently in development, could be equipped with hypersonic weapons.

China has reportedly conducted four tests of its hypersonic glider vehicle (HGV), dubbed by the Pentagon WU-14. The weapon could deliver either conventional or nuclear warheads and is reported to be capable of neutralizing the US anti-missile shield. It has a maximum speed of

(around 7,680 miles per hour).

The United States is working on a similar device, known as the Advanced Hypersonic Weapon (AHW) as a part of its Prompt Global Strike program, which is not covered by the 2010 New START Treaty with Russia. In late 2014, a hypersonic weapon the US was testing exploded several seconds after the launch.

Right now Kazan not launched, it is the first Project 885M/Yasen-M, after Severodvinsk 885/Yasen.

Initialy planned 8 but finaly 7.

But it is clear that given the age of the project, Severodvinsk, under construction since 1996 is no longer at the height of the challenge. Consequently, a modernized version, called Yasen-M or sub-project 08551 is expected to take over after the second unit.

The production is six openly announced on January 31, 2011. This sub-project, the first unit, the Kazan, is scheduled for 2016 will therefore have a more modern electronics and delivered only basic manufactured components Russia. Launched in 2016 in service for 2017 minimum

A little surprising if they don't have a pump jet as Borey.
