jets to weapons, avionics and radar manufactured in Brazil and other Latin American countries. This is a hot topic,» Lichaev said at LAAD-2015 exhibition.

According to him, Irkut hopes to occupy a niche in Latin America by means of “promoting Yak-130 at Brazilian and other markets”, because members of the Union of South American Nations are developing a registry of similar weapons and equipment.

Russia-Iran Arms Sales Could Reach $11-13Bln if UN Lifts Embargo – Expert

Full-scale military-technical cooperation between Moscow and Tehran would be resumed if the UN arms embargo is lifted, a Russian military expert opined.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — When the UN sanctions are lifted, the potential market for deals between Russia and Iran for military hardware could be estimated to reach $11-13 billion, Igor Korotchenko, the head of a Russian think tank specializing in weapons sales, said on Friday.

In accordance with Thursday’s nuclear energy deal reached during Iran-P5+1 talks, US and EU sanctions imposed on Iran will be suspended after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verifies that Tehran is following through with the agreements. Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov added that the UN arms embargo against Iran should also be lifted.

“Our countries have great potential for development of military-technical cooperation, the full scale of possible Russian arms deliveries to Iran could reach 11-13 billion dollars," Korotchenko told RIA Novosti.

Much to the dismay, no doubt, of at least 47 US Republican Senators, a

of Action (JCPOA) was reached concerning Iran's nuclear program Thursday, after 8 straight days of final-round negotiations, in Lausanne, Switzerland.

He stressed that full-scale military-technical cooperation between Moscow and Tehran would be resumed if the UN arms embargo is lifted.

According to Korotchenko, Russia could become a major supplier of military equipment to the Islamic Republic, as Tehran, planning an ambitious program of rearmament for the country's army and navy, is politically unlikely to buy weapons from Western countries.

On June 9, 2010, the

passed a resolution implementing sanctions against Iran over its controversial nuclear program. Many of the sanction were military, including a ban on the sale of modern weapons to the country.

On September 22, 2010, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed an executive order enforcing the

. The document banned all military sales from Russia to Iran and included the transfer of weapons to Iran from outside the borders of Russia by aircraft or vessels operating under the Russian state flag.

In October 2011, Russia delivered a ground-based 1L222 Avtobaza radar-jamming station to Iran. This was the first officially recorded sale following the introduction of sanctions.

IIRC the flattops were designed in Leningrad.

yes, in Nyevskoe Design Bureau (formally the same institution announced the monster which lead Mirageriver to start this discussion here :) https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/russian-military-news-thread.t1545/page-201#post-344241 and here is the link to the related interview with the director (more info but in Russian:

and a historical remark now: the design process(es) which lead to "the Admiral Kuznetsov-class" (Project 11435) took ten years due to numerous "hints" from above ... described by Kuzin & Nikolsky at pages from about 100 to 104 ... in short, the design actually built is pretty different from the

request (1973) of Gorshkov approved by Grechko and supported by Butoma (somebody very influential in the Soviet industry at that time), isn't it? Kuzin & Nikolsky say the reasons for the change definitely weren't financial nor technical (one of them was both Grechko and Butoma soon passed away -- now I checked: both in 1976)

EDIT
B. E. Butoma was the Minister of Soviet Shipbuilding Industry

Lol... You keep moving the goal post to my original respond to the article.. The article says a 100 aircraft 'advanced carrier'. In my mind that means CVN. Not a STOBAR and not a Vikramaditya. Russia IMHO DOES NOT have the capability to built a 100 aircraft 'advanced carrier' in the near future for reasons I have already stated in my previous posts.

I don't know what is in your mind :p . I could only comment on semi-official Russian announcements about supposed Shtorm-class which is a hybrid combination of STOBAR and EMALS CATOBAR . About EMALS part I have my reservations, but STOBAR parts is quite doable :

The design has a displacement of 90-100,000 tons, is 330 m in length, 40 m wide, and has a draft of 11 m. It has a top speed of 30 kt, cruising speed of 20 kt, a 120-day endurance, a crew of 4-5,000, and designed to withstand sea state 6-7. Currently it has been designed with a conventional power plant, although this could be replaced by a nuclear one, according to potential customers' requirements.

The ship carries a powerful air group of 80-90 deck-based aircraft for various combat missions. The model features a split air wing comprising navalised T-50 PAKFAs and MiG-29Ks, as well as jet-powered naval early warning aircraft, and Ka-27 naval helicopters.

The carrier's flight deck is of a dual design, features an angled flight deck, and four launching positions: two via ski-jump ramps and two via electromagnetic catapults. One set of arrestor gear is included in the design. The design also features two islands; a feature only previously seen on the latest UK design.

I'm talking about where they were built. (Varyag, Kuznetsov). At these types of yards, there are entire groups of engineers who work with the fabrication process apart from the design of the carrier itself. They are the ones who engineer all of the jigs, tools, processes to put it together.

Large number of workers and engineers moved from Nikolayev in Ukraine to Russia , this happened long before current crisis . This goes especially for workers in military shipyards (Nikolayev North and South shipyard) because simply there was no work for them in Ukraine with miniscule military budget compared to USSR and almost non-existing foreign orders .

What, they went to Russia? Not Eastern Europe? I would say that after the gates of Europe opened after the fall of USSR and being a qualified worker emigration to the East would be a piece of cake.

Talk and announcements are cheap.

As I have said all along. They have made many of these before...not one has panned out.

I do not expect this one to either.

At this point, I will believe that the Russians are actually preparing for a new carrier when I see one well along in construction, not before. No matter what really cool announcements are made about really capable carriers they intend to build.

Let's move along.

LOL
Like I said short of thousands of engineers, dock workers etc from places like Newport News, Ingalls, BAE decides to defect to Russia today and Putin finds an additional $15-20Billion in his couch quite improbable if not impossible for that thing you see in the picture to be put to sea in the next 10-15 years as the original article implied.
