let me just set some facts strait. If Russia is doing well and is moving I report it if Georgia is doing well I report what info I get.
I do support Georgia and its help with my country the U.S in the war on terror and if I was running things U.S aircraft would have removed russian planes from Georgian Sky's. I think it is deplorable what the Russians are doing. end of that.
Now, I do know Georgia OP-Plan per more than 1,000 U.S troops training and equip them. I do know the OP-plan called for Georgian special forces and even reserves do take civ clothing and fight a high intensity guerilla war if Russia trys to topple the gov.
lastest news is a fact that a re-enforced bat tried to move on gori and was repulsed with heavy russian losses and a counter bombardment of s. ossetia has restarted.

Another possibility that shows up may be that Russia perhaps intends to disintegrate / cripple the Georgian Army, without eventually occupying gerogian territory. If the (conventional) military factor is diminished in Georgia, that may give Russia even more leverage in the region and may allow them to negotiate from an even stronger position to get favourable results.
It somehow also sends a certain message to other countries in a similar position; and to the whole world for that matter regarding Russia's old-new influence.

It's pretty obvious now that this is going to go down in one of three ways:
Russia takes over all of Georgia, controls the pipelines and the Baltics / Ukraine realize that the same fact awaits them if they step out of line with Moscow.
Foreign forces enter Georgia to defend it.
The Georgians hold out and bloody the Russian Army long enough for Moscow to accept a deal with they get the separatist regions of Georgia but the Georgian state is taken over by international peacekeepers.

report-Georgian forces are leaving Gori, But they are leaving small units of sniper and anti tank team and Arty controllers to pinpoint russian units.
reports indicate that long columns of russian armour are moving south all the way from Beslan, and U.S Intel is telling Georgia to prepare to fight for Tbilisi as the amount of military power moving into Georgia is comparable to the invasion of Iraq. 600-1000 armour/afv and 60,000 troops with 25,000 already in Georgia and moving fast now.
Things will slow around the hills of tbilisi and the start of counter supply ops by Georgian SF leftover in Gori.

Russia rejects OSCE brokered cease fire offer.
According to georgia city of Gori has been conquered by russian troops. Only 60km to Tblisi left.
If russia is not stopping the attack right now, this going to escalate. No one is gonna believe their assurances of quick end of hostilites or limited campaing after this.
Even though I despise Shaakasvilis actions, georgia needs planeloads of AT and AA missiles and right now or they'll be completely overrun. Ukraine, baltics and so on must be scared *hitless that the mighty west is not helping friend in dire need.
EDIT: Reuters reporter in Gori denies that the city is captured. Who knows?

Georgia is setting up defense in depth 15 kilometers from Tbilisi. They are digging into the hills, urban areas in multi layers of defenses. Ready to blow bridges and are digging in while keeping maneuver groups ready. Tens of thousands Georgians are protecting Tbilisi.
Georgia is also keeping small cells of volunteers and special forces in basements ready to undertake small unit and insurgent actions against Russia.
My sources are telling me that Gori still has Georgian troops in the hundreds hidden ready to attack. Georgia will start going after the supply units feeding the russian armour.
I believe the U.S should now start sending in special forces to help this ally...I am not the only one who thinks this way to include U.S military men.
Also Many Georgian commanders believe they will have more than 100,000 troops in two weeks and when and if the Russians leave they will destroy abkasia and ossetia.
