Hi mods,

It's very laudable (and necessary) that you want to limit/restrict political discussions. However sometimes it's very difficult not to talk about politics, given that politics is so often at the heart of everything - military matters are no exception. Also it gets a bit "grey" if some mods also make points which are also related to politics - it makes some of us assume that the issue raised is "ok" for discussion.

So in order to perhaps make it easier for us, could you issue some guidelines about what is "acceptable political discussion" and what is not? Also what we should do/assume if a mod raises a political point.

Thanks,

FMC

I agree with Fu. Some issues are just to linked to politics. It is one thing if you just bring random politics into something totally technical, but a lot of the issues that are discussed here are very linked to politics.

One other thing-I think the general ban on discussions involving China and India is a little, well, strict. Both of these countries are going to dominate Asia in the future, and we can't just ignore the relations they have with each other. That's just absurd.

The problem with not allowing political discussion is not that it doesn't matter but when people express their opinion, they write poorly and try to degrade their opponent which leads to flame war and counter attacks from the other side.

As long as your political view is expressed in respectful and objective manner, I don't see why anybody would have problem with it? Even when giving subjective comments, one should not forget that other person deserves as much respect as you do. Many times, people overlook that fact and degrade/defame their opponent and that creates problems for all of us.

Weppy said it quite well, If you can discuss it maturely enough, then at least I have no proplems with it. Unfortunetly not all of you can do it, so thats why we tend to jump in rather quickly...

but we will discuss this matter among us mods and comon policy will be followed. But do remember that we are military forum in first place, so allways remember that when you think of posting something....

Hmm, but I guess it's difficult to permit "political" discussion because people will just assume they're being reasonable even if they're quite not - thus that will make things worse.

But yes, Golle, please do talk it over and let us know what your "guidelines" are. It would be useful if you pinned them somewhere as well where we can easily refer to them.

I know this sounds pretty obscure, but now onwards we let some sort of political discussion to take place IF its relates to the orginal military issue it rooted from...And this is allowed only if it has no trolling, flaming or any other remark of black-and-white type of world views. So basicly, if you have some political stance, dont bother....it will end up messy and I take no excuses...

SO SIMPLY, FOLLOW THE RULES AND REMEMBER THAT ESSENTIALLY THIS IS MILITARY FORUM, NOT POLITICAL FORUM!!

Ps. And still, all india-pakistan-china related warmongering (meaning all sort of military, political or sosio-economical comprassion) is forbidden. This so if our new pakistan and indian orgin members havent read all the annouchements.
