So I have this little peach tree in my yard. This summer it produced about a dozen beautiful-looking fruits. We ate a few of them, but were waiting for the rest to ripen more before picking. They were delicious, so much better than store-bought peaches.

Then last night, I found that the peaches were gone. Where there had been 10 of them the day before, I could only find two. This morning, there was only one left, and by the light of day, I saw 8 peach pits on the ground, along with a small pile of feces.

My suspicions is that a racoon stole them. I'm angry and disappointed, and trying to come up with a way to protect the fruits for next year. I don't want to trap or kill them, and since I have young kids playing in the yard, I need child-safe solutions. Does anyone have suggestions?

So this year, I got more peaches, but unfortunately, the raccoon became more destructive. Instead of waiting for the peaches to ripen, it's now biting and ruining them before they're even ripe! I've lost a dozen peaches already, and I'm down to 8 now. I've tried a variety of ways to protect the tree, but none seem to work.

I plan to pick all the peaches when I get home this evening, even though they're not fully ripe yet. At the least, I'm not letting that damn coon get them all again!

Next year, I'm going to try an electric fence.

Yes Sir, that's the best solution so far, sad for you Bub, I LOVE peaches, and you are so right, nothing like picking them off the tree and letting the juice run down your chin, though I use the pocket knife for a little more adult approach! LOL

Yep, these bad boys are likely "genetically modified", not that it matters a whit, but peaches do not grow that large in nature, they really don't, and I have seen some very large peaches, grown by people who grow lots and lots of lovely peaches...

Solarz, we have 2 beautiful peach trees at the farm, apparently they are identical, but the peaches on one are tremendous, the other one, they are merely awesome, but one had much sweeter and firmer fruit??? I only ate about 1/2 a dozen, next time I went back, someone had picked them all??
